Probably my favorite color ever to cover a Tacoma... wish I had one!

Sorry, but power seat. No plural. :D

IMHO, stay with what you know unless you're making a more drastic change than MY.

They pulled this on me when I took my '17 in for service. Long story short. They gave me more than I paid for the '17 and I left with a '20 for $3,500 all in price difference.

I owed ~$10k on the '17 and the guy said something like "because we are giving you such a good deal you are going to finance with us, right?" My response was that I'm in the middle of a house refinance and he wasn't touching my credit. Wrote a check and took it home.

They kept talking monthly payments. I was focused on how much it was going to cost me. I felt like $3,500 was worth it. I can cut the bed and add the cubby back - man, I miss that cubby.

Yep.... I always work on price first. Once we agree on that, then it's time to consider payments. I've bought very few cars for cash, but most are at least 50% down.

Hmmm, thinking back, these are the cash buys:
'72 El camino; $625 in busboy tips
'84 Ram Charger (really liked that thing)
    '85 380SL
    '85 911
    '12 Accent

Yeah, this was the first cash car I have purchased (not counting the Accord I bought from my parents after college). Had I not had the liquidity to write a check I would have passed. A new truck isn't worth screwing up the house refinance.

Oh and the front passenger floor mat has hooks to stay in place. They didn't start that until '18 and mine would never stay put. It's the little things.

    heres what happend to me...

tldr: we checked out the offers and got a good deal. moral of the story...haggle, then haggle some more, then ask for more free stuff lol.

long version: one thing to keep in mind...our trucks hold their value very well...the highest from what ive read and was told by many salesmen including non-toyota dealers.

when my wife decided she wanted out of her 14 mustang and back into a tacoma (i had inherited her 05 xrunner as my dd). we went to look at used tacos at several dealers both toyota and others. any truck we looked at was about only $2000-3000 less than a new one. the 2016 were about to come out and we waited a few months.

at first no dealer would come off the price because they were "new and hot". kept going between dealers until we found one she liked and could get a discount. ended up with a new 2016 texas ed.

fast forward a few years later and i kept getting these offers myself. at first i ignored them, but they kept coming up with better offers so i thought id look into it. when my wife saw the new cavalry blue, i knew we would be getting one lol.

what i did was take the "offer" to 3 dealerships including the one i had originally purchased our 16 from. i haggled over a weeks time back and forth, driving from one dealer to the other until the last 2 standing duked it out and would budge no more.

then when i showed up at one telling them id prob do a deal i got them to do a few things extra before i would signed the dotted line.

    1. remove the factory alloy sport wheels (because ugly) and put the satin black texas ed wheels off my 16 and put them on a 2019 trd sport.

    2. put brand new bfg all-terrain tires on it

    3. got the factory black out kit option

    4. had the windows tinted.

at the time my 2016 had around 40k miles i believe. by the time we got done, i had a brand new truck with 4 miles, with options we wanted plus the better stereo with nav, all the new safety and cruise features my 16 didnt have. it was in a color she loved and to top it off we ended up with a payment less than the current one. couple all that with having a factory warranty again.

in the end the local dealership that i bought my 16 from did not get my business sadly because of a new hard-nose manger that would not work much with us. the dealer that kept sending me the "offers" was runner-up and 3rd choice dealer i used to pit against the other 2 ended up being the winner.

I guess this whole trade in process really only works IF the dealer has the exact replacement truck ready to roll off the lot waiting for you. For someone like me, even if offered a great deal, I cannot hand my truck in until I have that replacement truck there and I’m driving it home.

Really? I figured after the runaway Toyotas, they would have implemented that long ago.

Not just toyota ... every dealer does it to get used vehicles and try to sell you a brand new one . It’s how they stay in business.

    I've been getting those letters.
They are offering to work with me to get the options I want.
I take that to mean that they have some allocations becoming available to work with.
Those could be used to get a Tacoma I would want.
The problem being there is no guarantee to when such a vehicle would arrive at the dealer.

That and my 2 1/2 year old Garage King Tacoma only has 5500 miles on it
Send me a letter in 6 more years. I be ready then :)

Driver's side - yes - because who wants a runaway Taco...

Passenger's side - started in '18 for the 3rd gen even though my brothers '15 has them on both sides.

Interestingly enough, they had to bring my replacement in from 200 miles away.

That's why I said the 4Runner, not the Taco lol. Buddy's 16 SR5 T4R has them and it pissed me off because my 17 Taco (Rip Inferno) didn't....

Own my truck outright...2016 TRD OFF-ROAD, Leveling lift, Mobtown Plate rear bumper, Mobtown Front Recovery Bar, ceramic tint, leather seats, roof rack, tonneau cover with 66k miles was offerred $30,300. Had the truck since 10/15. Insane that it's held top value. My 21 is on order, couldn't pass the offer up. Cement TRD Off-Road for less than $9k OTD. How do you pass that deal up?

Yep, that’s sort of what I’m fighting against. Basically 6 more months on my current note gets me a ‘do over’ with a 2020. But that’s in theory and I’m not motivated enough to go test it out.

I would look at the total financial equation.

    $41k - $33k = $8k.

If you had been given the option to pay $8k more for seats, carplay, led headlights and a 70k mile warranty would you have done that?

BTW that is a 25% premium if you paid cash much more if you finance it.
