So today I popped the hood to check oil level and to my surprise, the air filter box was disconnected. The last person to touch the truck was the dealer for the leaf recall. The invoice shows that they did a multipoint inspection and recommended a air filter so I know they touched it.

What should I do at this point? It's been 3500 miles and I honestly never noticed anything different and no cel.

Is the secondary filter good enough?

I'm calling the dealer tomorrow but I don't expect there is anything they can or will do.

You should probably be OK but I would let them know their mistake. I always check my truck over if for some reason the dealer had to do something.

I've had my intake disconnected from the air filter for probably 6 months .. In heavy rains and 2 wheeling trips with no issues. I also have no fender liners and the filter stays dry as a bone. Your truck is fine.

What year is you're tacoma? It's just a few clips for 2nd gens... No big deal, no worrying necessary, this is barely threadworthy, and there is nothing mechanically wrong. You've gone, or you have 3.5k miles on the truck? Just reconnect and enjoy your low-miles Taco. I'm approaching 200k rapidly, at 187.9k now.

Reconnect everything properly and forget it.

Other than the part to always check behind them if they have to touch it again.

Thanks guys. If it wasn't for the recall, it would of never been to the dealer. I've been servicing it myself for the last 8 years.

Since you service the truck yourself there's not much they will do other than maybe offer some free oil changes. Close it up and carry on.

You say you service it yourself ... 3,500 miles and you looked under the hood? I check things out every weekend if I can ... at least when i get gas. As the other have said it's a non-issue. Having said that I always check under the hood before leaving the service area (after a visit several years ago when the hood started popping up and down at about 45 mph ... safety latch did its job) ... they (service folks) give me the snake eye but screw them.

    Stepping down off soapbox.

3500 miles is only about 3-4 weeks of driving for me. The hood would be open sometimes twice a day if I checked every time I put gas.

No biggie at this point. Reattach and move on, and never go to the dealership for service or recalls.

Bring it to their attention, you were gulping unfiltered air and did some minor accelerated damage to the cylinders and rings, there is a reason you have a filter....that way you will be covered if something happens down the road....

    CYA, CYA....

Seriously, you wouldn't take your truck in to have safety recalls done.

Fix it and move on. Complaining won't do much as the dealer can easily say it's been too long to prove my mechanic did it. Once you drove off the lot without checking it, from a liability point you don't have a whole lot to stand on and then it's the graces of service writer. It's not s big deal, clip it and forget

Nope, I really haven't seen a recall that has worth doing unless it could result in the death of the vehicle.

How would you no if you don't take it in? You don't think the air bag recall is not going to be worth doing?

I would try to get new charcoal filter which is part of upper housing. The charcoal is not made for filtering just to catch fuel vapors from going to atmosphere. I also believe your engine is fine and the charcoal filter caught most if any dirt and that's why I would want it changed.

I read about the recalls on tacomaworld. Air bag recall? Didn't hear that we had one for tacomas

It's coming. Doing Tundra's and Tacoma will happen. Point being the are many recalls that cost you nothing and can actually help. Perfect example would be the 2.7 cat replacement.
