I am really failing to understand the need to defend an obvious fuck up.

No one should feel obligated to check whether the oil was actually changed after paying for it … or if the heart valve was replaced by a surgeon.

Some of these things have larger complications than others, of course. But defending incompetence is pathetic.

Not checking the safety and completion of any repair made to a vehicle that you or your Family member will be riding in is pathetic.

Checking the repair is in your best interest. Unless you like to have the OP's problem. This is why I do maintenance myself. The dealer the OP is using is missing probably more than oil caps too. Look at the battery connection, easy repair for the tech, really helps the customer. This is the stuff I would be checking as well if I had the dealer or anybody else do my maintenance. Looks like they aren't interested in maintenance but rather a good tow in and charge for diagnosis.

Yes it's the tech's fault. But your asking for trouble if you don't check. You know, Trust , but verify.

I get that that but not even close to everyone checks (or should need to). My mother is 81 and gets her car serviced - she is not checking to see if the oil cap is on and the drain plug is tight and if the lug nuts are tight. MY GOD -

And that is why old people get taken advantage of at dealerships. No you shouldn't have to check, I agree. But it is what it is.

Mazda. And there's a plastic cover that runs the entire underbody, save for the rear diff. So says the owner's manual.

word, sorceror. I hope your 6at(?) is worth it. I mean it probably is. But throw a spare wheel under the frame rail or something. I'm sure you've got some redundancy.

    Work in progress...
It's like in Nascar, the driver should get out of the car and verify the wheel are on tight before driving off after a pit stop. They always blame the damn tire changer. That is just not right. The driver is to blame.

^^^^ Even after many years of doing this pre-flight as well as after taking on fuel, it always gets/sharpens my attention when I see the balls of water in the tube. Especially in more than one sample.

Folks take their rigs to a dealer so they don't need to check the work. So I guess your wife or girlfriend that have no clue what to look for are Dumbasses?

And I've never made a mistake at work, as that would cost millions and my job.

Im sure its rare but mistakes happen. Its easy enough to open the hood and look if the filler cap is on. Look under and see if its dripping oil.
