My local dealer offered me $33K on my stock '17 Limited (65,000 miles) towards a '22 Limited listing at ~ $48K. Thoughts appreciated.

Is that the letter or email offer? The fine print says that it would be adjusted for mileage and wear. I’m guessing the real offer would be a bit lower after they get you in the door.

What does yours book out at? With all things considered in the market, it is still a little low. I haven't looked in a while though.
I am interested to see what you do. Subscribed.

Is the 22 new? Keep in mind that they will come out with the 23's sometime this fall.

I'm a believer in keeping cars for 15 years, but with the current value of used cars, I'd be tempted to do that. The new Tacoma's have some nice refinements ... then keep it for a long time.

Do you want a new truck? I traded my 17 sport with under 50k for 28,500. I thought I should have gotten more, but I figured it cost my about a grand a year (paid 33k end of 2016] and was ok with that.

If you really want a new truck and that offer is solid it a good deal. But don’t go in and end up with the old bate and switch. Remember the devil is in the details and as stated above was it appraised by the dealer at just an email/letter. Good luck. I also keep the trucks 10-15 years and to about 180k. Then they still have life in them to make someone a nice truck.

I did a similar deal back in March. I traded my 2016 limited 4x4 in for my 2022 TRD sport ($47k).
My 16 had 85k and was in very good condition.

initial trade in offer was $26k, and I almost walked. I was firm and truthful that I really liked my 2016…color, options, and no payment. They kept coming up in trade in until finally peaked out at $33.6k.

With less miles, I think you could get a few more dollars. Is there any “finder /location fees”? It was hard for me to accept the $800 fee they charged me, but with the excellent trade in for my 2016 I accepted it.

I traded in a 2019 sport a couple weeks ago and got $38,000 trade value. Almost $5000 more than I paid for it 3 1/2 years ago. Had 24,000 miles. Traded for a loaded 2022 sport with sunroof, leather advance tech, etc. Paid sticker price of $46,860.

I saw this truck advertised on their website and just drove in the next day and traded.
New truck seems more refined and for some reason which I can not explain runs much smoother and has more power.

Trade in prices peaked a few months ago. They are going down so do what you want and new prices will go up.

My dealer called me about a year or two ago ago asking me the similar question for my 16 Sport with only 48k miles at the time.

I flat out told him no, it’s paid off and the newer models don’t offer anything ‘new’ I want or didn’t already have. Adding to that my truck hasn’t had any issues most people talk about for the early 3rd gen years.

    that’s just me though.

I felt like I should have my head examined after paying $47k for my new pro in 2019, but I was getting out of a POS 15 Silverado that was already falling apart at 35k miles. Can’t imagine what the pro goes for now.

A lot to consider. $15K to upgrade 5 years.
New tires, new warranty, new features, etc would be on the plus side. (not to mention most likely a full tank of gas!)
Could you keep your installed accessories? (step rails, bed cover, etc)

I've looked at trading as well but my truck is paid off and has been flawless so I don't really want to roll those dice.
IMO anything built pre-COVID is solid, while things built during these supply-chain issues could have an element of chance involved.

^this 100%, the trade number should be the same. This is a great way to flush out the profit the dealer has built into their truck. Keep in mind they are entitled to fair profit, as much as you’re entitled to ask for a fair trade value and purchase price. However, that doesn’t mean they pay retail for your trade and you buy new at wholesale lol.
