Nope, no intentions of trading whatsoever. But, now? It sure is interesting to read the opinions of others and each are appreciated.

Good question! Does your new truck have the transmission "issues" as the earlier ones or do you have an MT?

I almost sold mine out right (no trade) during the hight of the pandemic when dealers were offering crazy money for used trucks. I think the values have gone down a bit since, but tacomas are still sought after and retain value extreamly well.

There is a new Tacoma coming in 2024, I'd wait myself, you'll still get a good trade in offer then too

Just weigh the pros and cons. Is the new one the perfect color and configuration? If it has something you've been wanting, go for it. The adjustable electric seat is nice if you don't have it. I wouldn't do it if there is something you don't like about the new one. But it will hold it's value too. There aren't many vehicles that hold their values like Tacomas. If you get the new one tuned, you'll want to keep it for years.

(November, 2017) $38330-33500=$4830/5years =$966/year or $80.50/month to own that truck! . This doesn't factor in the $9500 from my trade in of a previously totaled 2007 Prerunner with 177K miles, so the actual is $28830-$33500=-$4670/5=-$934. Hell, this type of arithmetic make me even wonder some more! I gave the offer numbers to a competing dealer across the state line and am interested in the response. Thanks for the input!

    coming from a 2016 limited...

every feature my limited had I have on my TRD sport except the hickory leather.
additionally I have factory remote start, power rear window, apple car play (with JBL), adaptive cruise, lane warning, door lock sensor on both front doors...and 85k fewer miles.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
This. OP, if the truck is Black and a 6 speed, go for it. All day. All damn day!

I know the OP said he had no intentions of trading so I'm just playing along...

If I had my hair on fire for a new truck I would seriously consider the trade after I was convinced their offer was real. Depending on where you live, you also have to consider the tax savings on a new vehicle. The trade value times the sales-tax rate reduces the amount you would otherwise pay. Call it whatever you want but it is another "out of pocket" benefit of trades...

    Is your truck paid off?
How long do you intend to need/want a truck?

To me, spending $10-13K more for a newer truck just doesn't seem worth it if there is nothing monumentally different, like a manual transmission or getting 4x4 (if you didn't already have it).

Also, double-check Carvana and other similar sites before you trade it in. I haven't looked at them there lately, but they were offering more than dealers a year or so ago. I wound up trading my 2018 in for a 2020 at the time. Those other sites helped as it gave me a number to counter with at the dealer. As others have mentioned though, may be better to see what the Gen 4s offer.

The Limited I'm getting is, unfortunately, not a Nightshade. Just a standard Limited with a Blackout package.
Too bad, I like the look of the Nightshade package but not enough to wait 3 more months for it.

$33k for your '17 with 65k on it is a more than great deal. I'm sure you barely paid more than that brand new back in '16 or '17 when purchased new. Our trucks really hold their value!

If I was in OP’s shoes and the deal was for the same truck just ‘22 vs my ‘16, I’d do it in heart beat.

You're right, the 4wd version does. But that leaves about 5k in options or packages. The only packages are nightshade edition (1k) or nightshade edition with options - tonneau cover (1650).
