I just got $22K for my '08 DCSB Offroad with 42,500 miles and I had a wreck earlier this year which I told them about. Unless you've got the absolute base model it sounds a little low to me but that is only one side of the equation. If you're trading in, just come up with a number you think is appropriate to spend above your trade-in vehicle. Some people have a hard time thinking about it this way just like those that won't sell their house in a bad market.
If you think your truck is worth $20k and you want to buy a vehicle that you think is worth $30k, you are planning to spend $10 plus your vehicle. If they offer $10k for your truck but will sell you the new vehicle for $20k, good deal. Likewise, if they offer you $30k for yours but sell the new one to you for $40k, fine. The key is to know ahead of time what it is worth to you to get the upgrade. Too may people get hung up on one number or the other without considering the entire package. That's how the dealer makes money. Making you think you've got a great deal on one end and making it back (plus some) on the other.
Good luck. Do some more research using KBB, truecar.com, etc and figure out what you will actually be spending. As a point of reference, I just made a deal to get a very fair trade and pay $500 under dealer invoice for my new truck that had to be special ordered. You just have to be willing to walk away and get offers from several different dealers. I worked with 5 dealerships over the course of 3 months before making my deal and I could have done better if I wasn't so certain about the color I wanted.

I paid 17,500 for my truck two years ago. Slightly different truck, but same age at the time, and same miles. Sounds pretty good to me for a trade in.

This made me curious about the value of mine. I went to NADA and my truck is worth $5,000 more than what I paid for it brand new a year ago. I paid $24,900 and NADA states that clean reatail is 29, 750.

Wholesale is or at least much closer to what is the max the dealer will give you on trade regardless of what they show you on paper.

LMAO. That's what they get paid for. If they earn my business by offering me the deal I want, they get my business. If not, I go to the next, no hard feelings.

I agree with reply #6. He hit the nail on the head.It don't matter what you pay for the new one or what you get out of the trade in. Its the difference that counts.

It's a numbers game. They love it when there's a trade in involved because it's easier for them to jerk you around when dealing with 2 vehicles.

^Like others have stated, you have to look at the whole package, not just how much they're offering you for a trade in.
