Used all 5 of my free oil changes at my local dealership and didn't have an issue. Invoice always read correct, oil level was spot on along with all the other fluid levels. I know some of my local friends will probably disagree but I've yet to have a problem. Also had blower motor replaced, TSB springs installed and a nail pulled and patched free of charge and in a timely manor. Guess I'm just lucky.

That does sound like a B.S. story, but it's true. I've had it happen at different Toyota dealerships in California, Missouri and Pennsylvania. I was told that same story each time. I personally knew one of the service managers and knew he wasn't B.S.ing me.

Free oil change but what about the filter. My Wife got free oil changes then when I changed her oil, the filter looked like this... images_f6f083b8d2f1a7617b13fb57bd8d1955ac59738d.jpg

Now that is just gross and uncalled for. I don't let them change it but make them give me an oil filter. But 5W-20 is fine, maybe not correct, but probably won't hurt a thing. 8 quarts will.

The moral of the story is:

IF YOU let them fuck you some will take YOU up on the offer. There is nothing wrong with letting the dealership provide the " free " oil changes that you paid for in the price of the truck. IMO you would be foolish not to have them do it as you already paid for it.

    Trust but verify.

BEFORE you leave the dealer you should always:

Mark the filter and check that it was replaced.
    Check the oil level After.
Check that the service was done to your satisfaction.
Verify that the invoice is correct.

If something doesn't satisfy you bring it up immediately
    to the service writer.
There is no need to be overly paranoid.

I told the salesman that when I bought my truck. He was going on and on about the 2yr free maintanance and then I told him that it was hidden in the price of the truck.

Update, well after talking to some independant toyota shops, they have told me that the 5w20 will not hurt and may actually be better in the winter. The toyota dealerships i've spoken with said to use what's on the oil filler cap.I called the service advisor at the dealership this morning and I'm waiting on a call back. These dipsticks are a pain in the ass to get a correct reading since it is wet way above the full line.

My 2014 isn't due for a change yet, but I will NOT be taking it for my Free oil changes. I bought 10 Toyota filters off Ebay with 10 drain plug washers for $45 shipped to my door, and will be using full synthetic oil (my choice).
Its 25 miles round trip to dealer then add the wait time, the scheduling an appointment, and then having to double check everything they did or not do.
Just not worth it for me, but if you don't have a garage and proper way to dispose of used oil or the knowledge to do your own oil changes, I can see how this Free service would a nice benefit for some.
For those who do there own changes, how and what documentation do you keep for any warranty issues that might arise?
For the OP how many changes have they done on your 2010, and have you had any other service issues in the past? Just curious.

I always have to argue with mechanics at my dealer to put 5w30 into my 2012 V6 instead of their Toyota brand 0w20.... Not only is it clearly in the manual that i should be running 5w30 but im paying for it so put in what i ask for!! Honestly can't wait till this truck is off warranty so i can stop dealing with these idiots. Only continuing to go there and pay the ridiculous prices because with my luck something will go wrong the second i do something to void my warranty

It's still a good one. It took millions of years for Dino juice to form, we can talk about it for a couple:)
