That's exactly what I think it is... Like I said, I'm convinced it's those little fins between the mirrors and window. You'd be surprised how much noise a little piece like that can create.

I had a similar soun on my 2nd Gen. Turns out the top facia cover over the grille was coming of. Peps with bug deflectors have similar issues.

I am beginning to agree with that

Its actually a whole tone (440hz +/- ) rather than a buzz or vibration which initially led me to mechanics.

My neighbor a 35 year ASE mechanic drove it and eliminated the wheel bearings, Rear end, and said maybe a harmonic sourced from a slightly out of balance drive shaft. (apparently drive shafts are balanced using a weight system like tires. But the pitch does not decrease in frequency as the truck slows down so again points to harmonic turbulence. Like a very low whistle..

The drive shaft statement is what led me to take it in again. I thought they might swap one with a new one. Instead they took a new one out and discovered it too had the tone....I drove another SR5 today that had it. So I am not crazy....I hope to solve this for anyone who discovers it on their own

it's probably just the gears breaking in on the tranny...i hear once this happens you'll get another 3MPG increase to fuel economy and an added 13 ft/lbs of torque o_O

IT's (A above middle C) on the piano (or Guitar) which is around 440 Hz in frequency. I was able to use the pitch/tuning App on my phone to find the closest frequency. And match it with a YouTube tone of 440 HZ

It's a whole tone that can be identified is the point. Does not drift higher or lower with more or less speed. It just disappears.... It was the same on the SR 5

You can put some painter's tape on them to displace the air flow and eliminate or confirm.

Best Tuner for Android....You have to actually hum the sound into the tuner. It will not be able to distinguish it. IF you can duplicate the sound with your voice , you will get a Hz and Chromatic scale tone reading, It would be a step forward if you got the same frequency.

If its the air dam , the OR won't have the tone...I did not think the OR had the air dam

The OR does not have the air dam. I own an offroad and have the same noise you're talking about.

Oh no first release models are garbage, quick drive it off a cliff!!!! Who am I kidding mine is delivered next week. If it's normal I wouldn't be concerned. My civic has a terrible whine in fourth gear (manual) but I know it's nothing to be concerned about, just sound transferring through the mounts and into the cabin. If it annoys you that much then maybe they can fix it. I drive a lot with the radio off so I may notice it too, but some noises make me feel more connected with the road. Better driving experience in some aspects

If you're going to drive it off a cliff, please use the GoPro mount and capture some video!

Next week? Dang. Mine won't be built for 3 more weeks...

Anyway, I heard this on the OR that I test drove. Definitely sounds like airflow. Think blowing across a bottle but at a different tone/note.

Take it in. Make sure they hear it and try other trucks. They will also write a service ticket and send it to Toyota. Toyota will find the source of this the more people identify and display the issue. It's not something that jumps out. You have to listen for it. Once I heard it I was tuned into it on every ride trying different gearing, loading the bearings, driving side to side. nothing changed it except speed. My dealer's techs found it fast and on three trucks now.

I don't want to alarm anyone as this is a very minor tone. But it's there nevertheless and likely isn't hurting anything but if Toyota can figure it out and find a solution, what's wrong with that?

I have other vehicles so I told them to keep it as long as they need to. They needed one overnight and called me to pick it up while they investigate more with Toyota,

My guess is where the bed meets the cab at the lower style line.
Sounds like the area it's coming from to me anyway.

Wonder if the long bed will have the issue then? Since the lines extend to the bed
