I guess all you can do is "hope for the best"... If it's me, the $ amount makes the difference.... if it is low value, then I'd do it myself and they don't put their greasy fingers on my truck... if it's big $ then I have to hope they can fix it...! Then pray to Dog they get it right..!

I used to change my own oil in California and still do it in the winter here in AZ on my 68'. But I'm not about to bother changing my oil on my truck when it's 105+ outside here in the driveway. Let the dealership fuck it up. Will likely dump the truck anyway in a year or two

Excess oil will put more pressure on seals, so you should check for oil seepage all ove the engine since you put 1.5k miles on it. Chances are on an engine with only 10k it didn't do any damage at all, but no harm in checking.

I over filled a bike engine once, (pitch black, middle of nowhere in Baja). Next day it blew out the crank case breather all over the rear tire, lucky I was on dirt and not pavement.

105 deg...!! Holy shit man, I'd be worried my truck would melt. Maybe that's the source of all the issues you are having..! I doubt that the Japanese ever see that kinda temps..!! They did not factor Arizona into their plans when they engineered these trucks..??

I notice you guys are crazy hot when I see the weather reports..! I could not survive there...!

I totally agree with @smitty99 here. National stats show less than 5% of people now change their own oil. With that said, if you can't trust your dealer to do something as simple as change the oil, something that literally anyone can do, then find another dealer or brand. I haven't changed my daily driver vehicle oil since I could afford to pay someone to do it for me.

We always hear the dealer horror stories from the owners. I wonder what horror stories we would hear if the dealer mechanics started a forum documenting the "stupid stuff" owners do to their vehicles that the dealer had to fix?

How will overfilling the crank case put pressure on the seals? :/
Don't get me wrong, it shouldn't be overfilled but I'm curious what your reasoning is.

To each his own, do whatever you are comfy with whether its at the Dealer or do it yourself. I agree with what Smitty said earlier, the OP needs to take his truck back to the Dealer so it gets documented and has a paper trail.

Only way is if you completely filled til it was spilling out the dip stick tube and then sealed the dip stick tube. A bit extra oil does not hurt anything.

Read the answers in this thread, explains all the different things that can happen better than I could.

Again, I said, simply check, chances are nothing happened at all.

Well the correct answer is overfilling won't put added pressure on the seals. The crankcase is not pressurized. There is a constant airflow, thus the pcv system-positive crank case ventilation.
Excessive oil in the crank case can cause aeration of the oil. But that would require the oil level to be so high that the crank shaft hit the oil.
A restricted pcv system would cause pressure on the seals, negative pressure/vacuum.
    Anyhow.....

Searching threads and found this one and thought I would add on...

Changed my oil and I am reading too much on the dipstick (she is park on level ground, I left the dipstick out for about 30 minutes and took the measurement).

I drained the oil completely (well until no more drips) replaced with precisely 5.5 quarts (per the Valvoline bottles, one 5 qt. bottle and 16 oz. from a single quart bottle). Yet, I'm still high on the dipstick.

    So, one question one statement:
What's the likelihood of the dipstick being wrong? Bad manufacturing tolerance on the length of the stick or the location of the dimples? (side note I hate not having hashmarks)

Maybe the dealership that started this thread did put in the correct 5.5 quarts.

Since I'm a new Tacoma owner, I'm looking forward to the responses from you guys who have owned and maintained them for years.

if you did put in the correct amount and its reading too much oil, did you forget to replace the oil filter?
because when you replace the oil filter too, you need to drain the oil filter drain valve.

Did you change the filter? If not, then you may have overfilled the oil at 5.5 qts.

Yes, I changed the filter, and no I didn't put any oil in the filter. It installs open side down, which I'm sure you all know, and that would be just messy.

New filter, full drain, 5.5 qt. replaced... too full on the dipstick. Looking for answers. I don't want to drain a little out and run with too little oil.
