Hi everyone, got my recall taken care off after a long wait. Lots of problems along the way though.
Dealer hit my hood and when they tried to give it back they told me they never noticed and they would fix it. Ok, no problem I said. When I stood back the truck was sitting lower in the rear. So I looked and sure enough they never put the lift kit back in. They told me they look into it.
Anyhow they fixed my hood but told me the Tacoma never had a lift kit in the rear. Showed them photos on my phone in their shop and that done the trick. Anyhow, got the car back and on the way home for the (fourth time) CEL comes on. Put it through my scanner and called Toyota. The codes were (p043e p043f p2401 p2402) all relating to evap system. Toyota told me to bring the car back. 3 days later they told me it needs a charcoal canister. They want $971.00 for it. Also back at the beginning of my problems they called and said they wanted $$350.00 for nuts and bolts for a RECALL.
Has anyone had these problems with dealers on this recall and any ideas on what I should do.

Likely not an option unless the OP lives in a very Plaintiff favorable state like CA. Even then still probably not an option.

I would ask to speak to the manager obviously and go as high up the chain as possible. See if they can't get you a solution.
I'm assuming you are talking about a frame replacement here. If it were me I'd just get it to the point where I could sell it or the dealer would give me cash value.

A frame replacement is a big deal, its bound to cause multiple issues. This is why I'm shocked many people go for the replace and keep the truck. It would scare me off. But thats just me.

Put up a fight OP. Dont let them off the hook.

Did you buy the truck with them?

How can they charge you anything for them do the recall work, no matter what state your in. Contact Yota Corp, and then reach out to a lawyer (friend) and get some thing in writing on lawyer letterhead and send to dealership and corp. If that doesn't work, time to see the judge. NO WAY would I pay a dime for them to do any recall work, NONE!

    This.

When I got my Tacoma in '14 the AC almost immediately became ineffective. Just stopped blowing much colder the the ambient temp. The dealership dragged some feet and cost me quite a bit of time. AC wasn't fixed the first time.

I got in touch with Toyota America and things happened fast. You see, the dealerships need to be pretty much perfect. If corporate hears a story like this phone calls get made. Asses get chewed. I almost felt bad for my dealership (almost).

Make a call. They answer their phones.

    you mean frame recall ?

they are only responsible for putting toyota parts back on

if you came in with a lift, for a frame recall, you are obligated to remove
all aftermarket crap and put it back to stock, then take it in

but they should have told you before touching your truck. it's now their problem but it is complicated by your aftermarket parts

all recalls have exacting steps and procedures and pay rate from toyota,
a dealer is not obligated to dick with any extra crap...only factory crap

If you have a lift you have to either have them put it back to stock or pay to have the lift put in. Toyota only pays for the stock stuff after that you have to pay. I work at a dealer so I know

This. Had a similar situation but with the headlight melting issue. Dealer tried to make it out as if I did it by using the wrong bulbs. Pulled the bulbs to prove they were the original bulbs, called Toyota of America on the spot and shit rolled down hill for tha dealer within a matter of an hour.

Don't let that dealer nickel and dime you on a recall as big as the frame replacement and above all, make sure they did the replacement correctly. Have a tech and the service manager comb over the truck for you and have them explain line by line On the repair paper work what all was required to do the frame replacement.

I had my frame done with no problems or extra charges. My truck was lifted when it when in and still lifted when I got it back. The only trouble they found was the 1/4" spacer on the drivers side for the taco lean. They called me and I explained it to them and they put it back where it came from.
They also did the whole job in 2 days!
