You clearly can write. Now you know to read. Teach others to do the same.

A friend turned me on to the Kevin Hunter videos on YouTube when I was shopping for a new truck, I would suggest the same for anyone buying new or used.
OP, sorry this happened but you can get the warranty removed at least.

No Arrows, I also have come to a stage in life where i have been able to pay cash for our vehicles, & Yes, when you pay cash you pay attention, & it makes the whole process quite simple, all that is needed is a small piece of paper and a pencil. Understanding the price of vehicles paying cash is pretty hard for a lot of people, as others have pointed out it you can't pay cash you can still pay attention, These dealers (for the most part) are not trustworthy, my advise is if you're not that great with numbers or contracts, find or hire someone who is and take them along, could well be worth it. Not sure I'm following... because I'm reading it as comparing apples and oranges. A totaled car isn't the same as one that can be traded.

Regardless, the benefit of paying cash versus financing is not paying the interest fees. Over time, that adds up to a lot! So that is why I pay cash when I can because I hate paying interest on anything. It's literally giving them money for nothing. That in of itself is the true hidden markup of vehicles.

If the dealers would be straightforward, honest and explain everything in its entirety, word would spread like wildfire. People would tell everyone they know about a positive experience at a dealership. Just like a good restaurant. A lot of people, me included, tell all their friends about a good meal, in a good restaurant. It’s free advertising.

I know. It will never happen. It’s wishful thinking on my part. It’s the nature of the beast.

This seemingly daily influx of people getting royally screwed by a dealer whether their fault for not knowing what they are doing, or a very sneaky lying dirt bag of a dealership, is getting very concerning where this is headed.

Just having your ducks in a row, know exactly what you are buying BEFORE stepping foot onto the dealership property, and having your financing prearranged with a credit union, you can completely control the narrative.

If you decide to pay cash or pay your credit union loan over time is just personal preference. Bottom line here is to NOT blindly finance through the dealer. Know what your credit score is and how it plays a role in your interest numbers.

Sometimes you can preapproved from a credit union for a very good interest rate, then get the dealer to actually beat that interest rate to get you to finance with them. Then if you want to pay off the loan the following month with cash or you can just roll with it.

When i ordered my truck i asked what they needed for a down deposit...salesman told me $5k would be fine. I wanted to give them my credit card, but they refused at the time asking if i could send a check, or bring one for the full amount when the truck was ready. At any rate they took the credit card number, but didn't enter it. I eventually wrote a check for the full amount to them when i came for the truck. It was pretty painless to deal with these guys.

I did everything over the phone, and my fax machine so i had everything documented to go over making sure we both knew what i wanted ordered. I'm getting to think some are their own worse enemy.

There is an old saying, "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me". OP, I would find a different dealer to give my business to in the future.

You're not wrong at all. In fact you pretty much summed it up very concisely.

A fax is a legal document...at least as far as i know. There are a few slippery dealers i've been privileged to meet over the years. The worst was a dodge dealer at the time. This sales manager had more tricks, and gimmicks than i ever heard of. I had to walk away with this guy following me right to the door.

It's always a fun day to go play with random dealers once in a while to learn the newest tricks and shittery they play.

I used to do it a lot in the late eighties when I was in highschool, and too young to be legally bound to any contract. I learned SOOOOOO many of the games back then. With the internet and social media, I had to learn everything all over again when purchasing the last five vehicles.

Heard this is a great dealer. Dundee, MI I believe.

the dealerships in Ann Arbor (20-30 minutes north of Wolverine Toyota) are adding significant markups and have been very short with people (myself included). Wolverine wasn’t charging any markups and have everyone the time of day that stepped onto their lot.

The Kona Toyota Dealer & Salesperson….on any purchase…We went step by step on the invoice …each part of the cost, extended warranty’s, maintenance plans , the extras, all was explain and we had to sign the documents…on every part of the invoice and that we understand what we are paying for…before the final purchase…
Maybe some states.do not require many disclosures? Always buyers beware….and research “how to buy a vehicles ,use and new…
    Aloha

@MrArtixx its up to you but for me extended warranty is similar to car insurance. It’s there which you hope not to use but glad if ever you need to. 3rd gen tacoma is not what it’s used to . I have mine till 100000 miles or 6 years whichever comes first so I’m not worried if the dreaded front seal leak shows it’s ugly side or the torque converter fails

Dude, that's unnecessarily harsh. I'm sure we've all been fucked by a car dealer at some point in our lives.

In 1989 I haggled the price down by $4k, checked every line item, refused all of the F&I bullshit, locked in my deal perfectly and signed all of the papers. Walked out to my new car, got in and was ready to leave when the F&I manager knocked on the window and told me that they'd made a mistake on the sales tax rate since I lived in a different county, and that he needed to reprint the docs again with the correct rate and it shouldn't really affect the payment more than a dollar or so, if that.

    It was 10PM.

I was tired. Went back in, signed the papers really quick, got in my new car and left. A week later I'm bragging about the price I had negotiated and what a great deal I got - looked at the papers and sonofabitch, that bastard had increased the car price by $1000. I then also noticed the extra few months tacked on to my loan term either to keep the payment the same.

I was screwed. Couldn't do anything about it except chalk it up to a life lesson since the F&I manager had shredded the original contract and I had stupidly given him my copy to shred as well.

So bottom line OP it happens to all of us. As others have said, get your warranty/maintenance plan money back, take your life lesson and enjoy your truck! Oh, and never go to that dealer again.

What a prick; I hope that comment made you feel superior as I can think of no other reason why you would say something like that. The OP knows he screwed up and came here for maybe a little advice or maybe even some sympathy. But where the OP really screwed up is that he forgot this one important thing; TW is a virtual cess pool along with the rest of social media because of people like you. Again, I hope your post made you feel superior.
