they are going to try to make their money on anyone who walks in wanting a 2016 Tacoma right now. They will strike while the iron is hot. Buying a truck should not be an emotional thing but right now it is.

One of the reasons I bought the 15 when I did....Give me the vehicle I wanted if the 16s prove to be to costly. One dealer already told me MSRP until they get stock. My local dealer may give me a break since I bought the 15 and they don't have any used Late model Tacomas. Not many people will trade a late model on a new model and absorb the spread. He seemed to think I can get a deal on one. We shall as they say "See".

Good to know that your point of view, narrow as it is, is law and should be adopted by all. However, in my world it is 2015 and my children have a cellphones and/or tablets and might need to charge them if we travel in this truck, so USB ports or 120v outlets in the back of a double cab would be, not only handy, but a must. I also use an old iPhone as a music player and would like to connect it and not have it and the cable out. Shouldn't be much to ask for any new vehicle costing over $25K in 2015, especially one that offers BLM and wireless charging, unless it is a Toyota apparently. So I will wait and see what updates the 2017 brings and make my decision then.

I pretty much will not buy a vehicle unless I can get it for dealer invoice. It is just not going to happen a car isn't worth it and I am not stupid. The dealer still makes a good profit.

And not giving you a kiss when they are done with you. Some purchasers like that kind of treatment though.

One can never have too many light bars.
The fewer days cars are on the lot the more the dealer makes off the margin too. So it would make sense to sell for even a little less than MSRP in a pre-order scenario where the truck will spend a minimal time on the lot.

I got news for you folks. For the people who have put in orders or plan to purchase when they arrive on the lot expect to pay out of the nose for a Tacoma. A sport or OR DC 4x4 with PT package will be around 40,000 which includes taxes, msrp, desc, and other crap the dealer wants to sell you. Dont even mention the limited because you are looking at 43,000.00 and some change. That is a hefty price to pay just to be the first of few people to get one. I will just wait for further reviews and see what bugs are revealed. I am not intrested in spending that kind of money and find out 6 months later they have a recall. You got to remember this is a totally redesign truck "engine, exterior, interior, transmission." I will wait for the 2017 or 2018 to purchase one if the reviews are good. Trust me...when I do purchase one I will pull off the deal of the century a fully loaded sport for 36,000.00 and some change.

Ask them one question. "Is that your best price?" Then, once they have given you their "best price", walk out the door. Dealing with only one dealer right now, you do not have enough information. Take the specs and contact 2 or more other dealers. Email them the build sheet and ask them for their best price. Now just email or call between the three, four or more dealers and see who wants your business the most. When the dealers stop going down in price wave a little money in front of them and ask them if they will go lower. When they say no tell them you have a check for them for $500 if they will give you the price you want. You will be surprised how much you can reduce the price, even if the truck is a brand new model.

For some true. You are right about rough price but you also validate that I am doing pretty well on my deal today. 37,372 on an MSRP of 39,753. Supposedly straight invoice. Yes, next year when they are on lots you can probably get it less holdback as well. I'd wait but have no truck at the moment due to an accident and really like this new Taco from what I see. Recalls happen to all cars these days so not bothered by this issue - every model year will have them regardless of the number of changes. I'll take my chances with Toyota over the others. I think your 36 and change target is pretty spot on for a bit down the road.

When I was a kid I was told bring a toy in the car if I had to be entertained.... And my first car had no CD player.... I had to buy one. This new luxury crap needs to go, and be sold as an option to lower the price.

People are getting these trucks for less than MSRP right now so to suggest to buy the truck now you must pay MSRP is false. Not saying a lower price later will not be possible but you don't have to pay MSRP now. Two dealers I've contacted are giving me prices below MSRP and I have not even started to bargain with them yet.

Not sure what model you are buying but if it is a Sport, OR, or Limited with the PT/JBL and some other options you are going to pay in the forties including taxes and desc. That is like with anything else that is new you will pay top dollar. Now if you are buying a SR5 or 2 wheel drive you may be Ok for around 31,000 to 33,000

No, I'm not - see my previous post quoted above - and no one else has to either although many will because of a lack of negotiation or willingness to compete dealers near and far against each other. Taxes will bring that up some but that varies from location to location and is irrelevant to the buyers ability to get the OTD from the dealer price down no or in the future. A year from now this truck will be selling just fine and getting to invoice or invoice less holdbacks will be a bit easier but all one has to do is call enough dealers and talk to the internet guys and let them know what you want and who else is in the game. They hate losing business to the other guy when they know a truck is about to be sold.

Keep in mind there is over 60% retention rate on customers who buy at a dealer then take it to that one for service. Service is where the $$$ is at.

The new 2016s are now priced very close to full size trucks. You must really want that truck to pay basically the same money for a truck that has 100 less horsepower, 100 footpounds of torque less, and a bunch less room.

If you look at the specs, if you buy a dclb, its the same wheelbase and over all length as a a quad cab 1500 with a 6.5 inch bed...and they both get the about the same mileage...yes, the tacoma is a bit narrower and shorter, but you are not getting much more benefit.

    Something to consider.

New guy here. Just had to say I agree with you. Wife and I walked on a lot last night looking for a 2016 Subaru Forester for her. Got talking, tried to deal and told him our bottom line (85% of msrp). He said no way and we walked. Emailed her his bottom line today, still not good enough. I got on truecar last night, built the vehicle, and submitted it for pricing. I had four other dealers email me offers, all better than what we were quoted last night, including better prices from the same dealer. Then, the internet sales staff started low balling previously received offers. Walked into different dealer tonight with email in hand with a price we were willing to accept. Started talking trade, they offered 2,000 under what we wanted, told them no as we had a better offer from another dealer (dropped the name as well) for the trade and close on price (not really true, oh well). So, we signed papers on the car at $3,000 under msrp (88% msrp), and 300 under the internet sales quoted price that we walked in with, and got what we wanted for trade. Wife was extremely happy, which means I should be happy later tonight!!

The v6 in the Tacoma is top of the line. Show me a full size truck with a v8 and 4x4 that costs what a new Tacoma does that matches what each model has

Easy after truck month rebates in October of 2014 I paid $35.6k OTD for a 2014 Double Cab Z71 Chevrolet Silverado 4WD with Allstar package, tow package, etc. The MSRP was $42.5k.

It included V8 ecotec that got 19/23
    Dual auto climate control
Touchscreen/heads up in instrument console, bluetooth, satellite, projector headbeams, remote start, POWER SEATS, onstar, back up cam, etc.
everything the tacoma has minus crawl control or blind spot crap

Guys at work are getting RAM Sport 4WDs after rebates for $37k thats heated mirrors, seats, leather, etc. and a V8.

Im not advocating domestics over Toyota but your statement is invalid there. Fullsize domestic v8 4wds with all the same options are similarly priced after rebates.

New Tacoma with packages $36-40k, New Chevy or Ram fullsize with same options and a v8 after rebates consistently $35-40k.
