    Hey, All!
I’m about to purchase a '23 TRD Off Road MT and I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a great dealership? I’m in Redondo Beach, California and found two I like in Tennessee.

Also, if anyone has purchased a ’23 TRD Off Road MT what did you pay for it?

Thank you very much in advance!

    Blessings,
    John

MT are unicorns, good luck on that a dealer will likely have to trade or ship from somewhere. You'll pay accordingly. Shipping usually runs $1500+ alone.

You likely want to specify which part of CA for better suggestions.

Thanks. Location added. I’m willing to fly, it would make for a nice drive back. I’ve noticed that the few MTs I saw are a lot lower than the ATs. MTs around $40K while the ATs around $48K.

I paid MSRP back in June for mine from Toyota of Newport in Oregon.

Best of luck. Finding any MT Tacomas, let alone TRDORs, is a major pain this year.
Be wary of listed trucks that actually have deposits down on them already, too. Toyota dealers love pulling that crap.

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but when you say, "I'm about to purchase a '23 TRD OR MT...." you may be in for a surprise. There are only 11 of them in the US according to cars.com and none of them are sitting around waiting for you.

In other words, those 2 trucks you liked in Tennessee are likely sold by now. You're looking for one of the more rare Tacoma configurations at the very end of a model production program. Good luck John - you're going to need it.

Love my MT but it was a pain tracking it down. Took a year plus, but when I found the right dealer with an allocation I put down a deposit which was quite a bit more than the usual hold deposit. Told them I meant business and call me when it’s delivered. Picked it up 3 months later the day after it arrived.

Long story short, make sure you know that truck is/will be yours before you make the drive or take the flight to check it out / pick it up. Lots of bait and switch - It happened once during my search, dealer tried to put me into an AT.. Best of luck, it is worth the effort.

I gave up on MT. Too much BS from out of state dealerships. In the end I got an SX access cab which I needed and got it at 1k less then MSRP. So glad i found the right one at the right price.

I purchased my 2023 TRD OR MT a few months ago for 40,700. Tech package. LED lights. Couple other doo dads. If you want that truck in Tennessee, I hope you called them yesterday and are on a plane today. Good luck. They are awesome.

Do the leg-work and hope for luck!
The MT makes these trucks - I would not have one without a manual gearbox. Very simple.

Make calls - Locate one. Put a deposit on it on the phone. Fly and drive it home. This is what I did...

(I actually ended-up renting a car one-way for something like $30. I did not know I would get a minivan - but it was a very nice 8 hour drive... which was MUCH quicker that the various flights required to get me to where I was going.)

Best of luck! Keep us posted!

You're gonna have to do the leg work here

By the way, being in CA and buying a vehicle in a different state will mean once you bring it over, you'll need to pay taxes on it still. I'm sure you know this but just in case you don't.

Add smog and registration to that as well.

    Death & taxes - right!?

Same as in any other state... You'll pay the the same amount $$ tax in the end. No need to worry.

I've had it so that you pay the local tax, and upon registration you only pay the additional to match the appropriate rate in your location. - I do not know what happens if the tax paid exceeds the local rate. (Maybe you request it from the purchase locality? I do not know) - In any case; this is unlikely in SoCal...

With the Taco, I paid no tax at all. (Less hassle for the dealer as they need much less paperwork). They just sent me on my way and left the registration up to me... I got a temporary 30-day travel permit from the dealer, I handed over my $ and off I went in my un-registered and un-taxed Taco.
(I should have declared independence at that point!)

The dealer tells CA DMV that you are on your way in that terrible state... When in CA, you'll do the registration on a new vehicle, pay your reg + taxes, and you are now taxed & registered same as everyone else... But you best not delay - or they'll ding you... (I forget the details, but best not to delay. you don't piss off the tax man!).

*The only additional steps are a Smog check and Weight slip from a certified scale. Required since it is technically a 'commercial' vehicle and apparently to ensure that you do not exceed 5,000# and that you have not removed the smog equipment. It was $15 for the weight cert and maybe $40 for the smog...

Registration is a given, not smog on such a newish vehicle.

I have had to do many vin veritications though as a DMV representative for those buying a new-er vehicle out of state and bring it in.

Just called the dealership and they apologized because there was a computer glitch and their website was posting vehicles that have already been sold and shouldn’t have been online. No ’23 MTs. Oh, I checked the Oregon dealership and zero MTs. The search continues.

I actually enjoy hunting down vehicles for people. Constant car shopper.
OP not many left out there, so good luck tracking one down. May have to search used. I’ve got one! I don’t think I wanna part with it, but like they say throw enough money at someone and they’ll eventually sell!

IF you find one, I would be prepared to buy on the spot, have your homework ready. I'd guess there are little, to no, deals to be had on new 3rd gens, especially already hard to find manuals, Pros, long beds, etc.

I doubt you will find a manual trd off road at this point. Good luck. Finding mine back in the may to July time-frame was hard enough.

I just bought a 2023 TRD OFF-ROAD 4x4 from Kokomo Toyota in Kokomo Indiana. Great experience, 2,000 off mspr plus 2.9% financing. Paid 46,500 included all but tax tag and title. Adam was great. I did deal over the phone in 20 minutes. I live in Houston so I flew up and drove it back. Thought about shipping, but the road trip was worth it.

In my search there were a couple in Wisconsin willing to work a solid deal as well. I know you want MT but figured I'd share the solid experience with Kokomo.
