So I took my truck in the same dealer I bought my truck for its first oil change. (Went in early before scheduled change) I told them to check on the latest TSB update. And I'd like to get my transmission fluid checked. They call me back few hours later. Saying Toyota does not pay for the transmission fluid check and that they would have to charge me $120. Did anybody have any problems getting their trans fluid checked?

I didn't. They had to keep my truck overnight to allow the fluid to cool down so they could check it.

Take to a different dealer. Tell them you are experiencing some shift lag and sometimes rough shifting at slow speeds and you have been reading the transmission fluid could be low

    Tustin Toyota.

Miller Toyota in Fullerton has also been a good dealer.

Went in for tint repair and I had a similar experience when I asked if my '17 had the current trans/ECU TSB. The response wasn't "let's see" it was "what's the issue you're having?" Fair enough, but if Toyota's paying then why wouldn't they just do it? I'm a few thousand out on 5K and 6mo so I'd sure like to know what the magic wording is to get them to look at things. With VW it's having a case manager's ear, but that assumes you have a gripe that's ongoing.

I told them it kept searching for gears and shifting erratically.

This is normal. They aren't going to do it if they told you once that they aren't going to do it.

Someone got their wires crossed. They must've thought you wanted your transmission flushed. As someone pointed out all fluid inspections are covered under Toyota Care.

still won't make them do it. Depends on the dealer some are really lazy. And if they don't see trucks often they might not know.

they'll do the computer test which doesn't show shit from what I've heard, or tell you its a sealed transmission and they can't check it. lol

I went to Miller for my first 5k service. I asked for them to check my trans fluid. They said it's sealed and they could not check. I got some speal about how precise they measure fluids from the factory and whatever I read on TacomaWorld should be taken lightly because everyone on here is just a shade tree mechanic who thinks they know everything. I said thank you and kindly left. I went to Puente Hills and had a little better experience there.

My dealer didn't even bat an eye when I asked them to check at my 5000 mile maintenance. Said they were WELL aware of the issue, and found mine a quart low.

I asked for the same thing and was told they would do it. I stayed, watched, and conversed with Tech most of the time he was working on it. His computer found a software update that was needed for the trans which he applied. While he was sidetracked on another job I went to get a cup of coffee and when I came back (15 minutes tops) he was pulling the truck out of the stall. He said he checked trans fluid level as requested and it was good. Total BS but I couldn't prove it. I had checked the service procedures before I went and he couldn't have possibly done it in 15 min. Not to mention the fact that the service level needs to be checked HOT and the truck had been sitting for nearly 4 hours.

While the software upgrade did fix the shifting issue I still suspect that the trans is low on fluid.
