Anything aftermarket I'd take to an independent. Regardless of what they come up with as an excuse, with the amount of complaints most toyota dealers have and turn around time, I barely let them handle oil changes, let alone an aftermarket install.

I will get it done somewhere just have to do a little research first. The reason I went "karen" was I called and was assured it wouldn't be a problem and that they had done them previously. That's what really burn't my sack! "Thanks for being here for me"

Where are you located? There's tons of people that have done this that would be more than willing to help (with enough beer and pizza....).

Although they are very good at apologizing in a monotone voice.

It's annoying they didn't tell you accurate information on the phone, big waste of your time. Try to find a shop that specializes on toyotas, we have one near where I live, I'll be taking my truck there when the time comes.

If he took a shot at it and messed it up then what? At least they were honest.

Install it yourself, takes 1.5 hours and can rent any tools needed for free at autozone or similar.

I agree. There are things that dealerships do and things they don't do. It's up to you and common sense to determine which is which.

The whole issue is that the service manager said they would do it and were very familiar with the install, not simply that the dealership wouldnt do it. I dont know why everyone is being so hard on OP. He asked ahead of time...

Yeah but we don't know exactly what he said or how the job was described, nor do we have the other side of the story from the person on the other side of the phone so with all due respect to OP who knows where the miscommunication was there.

There are two parts here. The main part where he was given information that was later found out to be wrong or miscommunicated, adn the second being the aftermarket parts. You're right, most are focusing on the second as most people wouldn't do that, but nobody is raggin on him for what was clearly bad communication on the service managers part

4 hours sounds about like the requisite amount of cussing before giving up, too...

    I've installed over 20 :)

I'll install a trampoline in the back of the truck if you want it.
