Oh yeah. The system could be worked. My folks had a car with some real shitty emission equipment when that stuff first happened. They had it converted for leaded fuel and were tied to the inspection shop that did the work.

These days, here, all kinds of interesting stuff happens. It is just a matter of staying under the radar, for real.

Well, up until lately - property taxes are insane. Among other things.

$7K a year to live in a house I own? WTF?

That's such a different mentality. In WA it's tax upon tax, increases are normal and they try to make it seem like no big deal, either way the state will get theirs. I knew I'd be paying thousands extra if I bought the truck there even though I was getting the truck TO move out of the state. Just last week I saw on the news that WA is bumping up a bunch of bridge and tunnel tolls because "the state lost a bunch of revenue last year since people weren't out driving as much." It's punishing. Property taxes in WA are really bad too. Okay /rant.

Yes, indeed. In the Bible the Jews were God's chosen people. Today, it has to be Native Texans.

I have heard some dealers doing this (not selling out of state) since they dont want to deal with a DMV of a state they are not familiar with.

People from NY with shit credit flock to PA because the max interest allowed on an auto loan is significantly lower. At least that was the case in the early 2000's when I lived/worked there.

    Yeah
I wouldn't be so sure, had a dealer refuse to sell my wife a rav4 when I had cash in hand cause they wanted to make that finance money. Walked out of there literally across the road to Nissan and spent our money there instead.

*edit: that was at full sticker price, we wernt even haggling. Still wouldn't do it.

Im talking in the 80’s but probably still true. We always went down there to buy gas, cigarettes, and beer (no deposit) down there too. State tax totally different. Oh and fireworks.

Don't even get me going. It is the whole boiling frog situation with no end in sight.

That toll increase BS is beyond the pale. Their goal was to reduce congestion, yet penalize peeps for doing just that. Fuckers! Thankfully, we have spent right about $30 on toll BS here, other than the massive property and reg tax increase. Not great, but not bad considering it has been over five failed years of it. Thankfully, my bike is exempt for most of it.

Wasn't that all over a really small tax? Like 1% or less? Sorry. Too lazy to google.

Weird. I was in SC and stopped by a dealer while on vacation and they had no trucks on the lot. They had a Pro they were shipping out and told me they would be happy to ship a truck to me when they came in but they were still 30-40 days out.

My sales guy, who is a personal friend worked to get what I wanted on their pipeline. It took him from May till July 2021 and it was an OR and I wanted a sport but it had everything else I wanted. I also got it less than sticker. Find a dealer that is willing to work with you.

My local dealer had a brand new 2019 TRD Pro with the snorkle package on the showroom floor in 2020. This was the only Tacoma they had on the lot in October of 2020. I inquired about it several times before I bought my 2020 and they said they weren't allowed to sell it. Never got a clear reason why except it had to do something with Toyota. I ended up droving 3hrs to buy my Sport out of state because that was all I could find with the color and options I wanted. No issues with that, it was pretty much all done online and over the phone. I went back to the local dealer for service late 2020 and it was still there. Went back earlier this spring (2021) and it was gone. When I asked about it then they said it was sold to someone in Pennsylvania. They said they were unable to sell it locally because nobody wanted the Snorkle. WTF?

My buddy said the exact thing. Just show up and buy it. But no telling if a 10 hour drive would end in a big waste of time.

I may just buy a beater and wait this shit out. I am on the fence about building one which a local dealer offered. Pay sticker plus fees(about$400, plus tax, title, and reg).
I'd consider an a Sport or Limited, just not 5k over sticker which is what I have been quoted.
Looking at a 2001 Xterra with 140K for $5,000 to get me thru these shitty times we are in.

100% that I would go with the Xterra. You'll be able to sell it for that much once the logjam breaks up. Talking with a sales manager, it is said that the current situation is going to extend until at least the year end.
