I have a 2021 Trd Off-road with 72month 100k warranty. dealer told me they had a shop that can lift it and not void warranty. anyone else heard this? they sell some trucks pre lifted and I guess they go through this one shop. Penske Auto group shop for reference

The warranty is by Toyota, not the dealer. I've never seen it mentioned anywhere that Toyota warranties a lift.

thats what I thought. the service manager told me to my face not to do it myself and that if I got the lift done by a "certified" shop I would not void my warranty. it sounded fishy to me.

I’d get more information and have it in writing. If they are saying that the suspension will also be covered by the extended warranty if you go to their shop, then that’s something to consider. But as I understand it Toyota would only deny a claim on a modified car if related to the modification.

that's how it was laid out that the lift would cancel suspension and possibly drive train warranty. they said if I use their recommended shop, not it would that shop back their work for life, but would also avoid warranty voided. I will get something in writing for sure.

The dealer is saying if you go through their shop then they will warranty work at their specific dealership. If you try and get aftermarket suspension covered at another dealership they'll just laugh at you. So while what he's saying may apply to this one dealership, it's not going to apply to all. I would not bother going to their "certified shop". It sounds like they're just hooking their buddy up with business.

Dealer has what is known as "Preferred Vendors". Basically they get a better price when their preferred vendor installs something and therefore warranty is covered. Having said that; dealerships also like to use the excuse that a modified vehicle is no longer factory original and therefore voids the warranty.

Last year I bought the Fumoto valve and asked the dealership to put it in during a scheduled oil change. They refused because it was not a "Toyota' part and could not guarantee the integrity of the seal and hence the engine.

    Whatever

I’m 100% on the dealers side on this one. Failure of that part can be catastrophic. Why would they take on the risk?

Since you seem to be worried about the implications of a lift down the road and warranty, I'm gonna be that guy, do you really need a lift in the first place?..

We used them for our F250. They installed a leveling kit. Fully covered under warranty by the dealership.

Warranties on single items can not be "voided", only warranties on an entire population of items. If course there are exceptions to everything and warranty laws vary by state and locations, but typically a warranty claim can only be denied and usually it requires at least a simple explanation by the denier. An example would be, if your wheel bearings failed after 5k miles on a new vehicle and a warranty claim was made but denied because of aftermarket wheels with spacers installed. But if your air con compressor failed, having wheels/spacers installed is not reasonably likely to have contributed to that failure. Of course, if a claim is denied, it could be difficult to prove your modifications were not responsible for the problem and fighting it in litigation gets expensive real quick.

    Read your Toyota warranty.

It is probably very specific regarding modifications.

I'd be very doubtful, if the Toyota warranty would cover any modifications or failures attributable to the modifications regardless of who performed the work.

Something to consider. You complete the lift. A CV joint blows out and craters the front diff. Toyota may deny warranty because the modification altered the drive train..............

    Your decision, your risk.
