According to the manual, adding non oem parts and having non Toyota certified people work on your truck may void warranty and that’s so stupid. Almost everything in my taco is aftermarket and was done by myself.

    Example:
    “My brakes make noise”
“That’s because you installed an aftermarket bed cover, it adds weight effecting the braking ability”

Ummmm.......I believe the modification needs to have a potential impact on the failure and be related.

The situation you describe would be unrelated. The brakes will be able to handle any weight within the vehicles payload and GVWR.

it is actually kind of ridiculous of you to expect a dealer to install any aftermarket parts, no matter what they are. what happens when that part fails? now you get to blame them? why would any business want that liability?

The dealer would install aftermarket parts SOLD by Toyota and approved by Toyota.

That is a gravy train of cash. Ie, bed cover, floor mats, wheels......just stop in the Service Dept. they have displays of approved aftermarket parts.

They even have some lift kits.

Magnuson Moss Warranty Act - federal law that requires the dealer to prove that the aftermarket part caused the warrantied factory part in question to fail. Dealer is full of shit.

Is this a Toyota warranty or a dealer warranty?

Well, it wasn't expected. I asked. The answer was no. I respected their answer. I waited till my warranty with Toyota was expired and got it installed. Thank you for your input.

Edit: you obviously skipped over the important part of my remarks.

Exactly. I'm guessing is is an aftermarket warranty because Toyota doesn't offer something like that. I don't know why it took 20 + posts before someone caught that. The advice hear applies to the standard manufacturer warranty. An aftermarket warranty can have any conditions they want.

So I get what you all are saying but OP> My brand new on the lot 2018 was already lifted but by the dealership; not Toyota, so my only warranty recourse for the lift components is through the purchasing dealer; which by the way they have stood behind twice when I had minor issues including giving me a loaner while they waited for a part. With that said, I know for a fact looking at my paperwork they are at a bare minimum trying to send my repairs through normal corporate Toyota warranty. Are they successful ? I have no idea but using the stupid recall for the forward radar sensor foam padding and them trying to have me sign a waiver because the truck is "modified"...I refused and they backed down, they clearly know they are on the "hook" for mods they do, not Toyota.

Penske is a dog shit operation. They own one of the local BMW and Toyota dealers in Austin TX area.

    Scum of the earth type.

They' want to charge you $1000 to $2000 for a $120 spacer lift. By warranty they mean they will get it back to spec.

These lifts are junk, and installation heavy. So you pay $1500 for some spacers and if there is a problem, they remove them.

Save your money a d put in a Bilstein 6112/5160 lift with AAL. Keep the OEM components and if there is warranty work due on anything there swap it back.

    My advice anyway.

Get a copy if the extended warranty, all the clauses, and identify the section he is talking about, if not in writing for your extended warranty, it’s a moot point.

So the warranty is not through the dealer. DSI , Dealer Services Limited to just name a couple have been doing aftermarket installs for dealers for a long time. The warranty on the aftermarket installs are through the installer. If you have an issue with the lift they just send over to the installer to get fixed. DSI/ DSL offer a 36/36 on all their installs. The 72/100 warranty you have does not apply to the aftermarket parts.

FYI DSI is owned by 4WP. Plenty of dealers here in Texas send the trucks over to 4WP to have the kits installed.

I don’t know if this is the case for the OP, but ugh, some dealers we’ve read about here are so unscrupulous selling overpriced spacer lifts to customers who probably already overpayed for their truck, and to make it even worse, they add the gouge price of those mods to the total amount financed!

Toyota Corp. won’t warranty any damage caused by those mods and lifts, and they know customers don’t have the money to fight it in court. And wow, only one reference to MaMoWA? I’m impressed!

No. That's not how warranties work. If the dealer says that and you walk away defeated, that's on you.

It's easy to warranty spacer lifts.....they really can't break, and if they cause damage, or a bad ride, bad anything, they will tell you "that is how it is supposed to work" and to be honest, they are right.

So if you don't like it, then you will be lucky if they don't charge you to remove the spacers.

Maybe I'm wrong and you are going to get a set of coilovers with resivors......ha ha just kidding there is absolutely zero chance they will provide you with a positive experience product. It's a money grab, if they did it right they would charge you $5000.

OP, some advice. Ask them exactly what they plan to install, and if they are keeping your original Bilstein blue and yellow shocks, then it is not worth it. You would be paying for someone to give you a downgrade in suspension.
