I called the dealer this afternoon and asked what the status is for my truck. He said the inspector didn't come today, but will probably come on Friday. He offered me a loaner car if I needed it. I told him that I was OK tomorrow (Thanksgiving), but I will probably need one by Friday. I thought the offer was a good sign, but it doesn't guarantee that they are going to approve the claim. I'll let you guys know what I find out on Friday. Thank you for all the kind words and advice.

That needs to be a "sorry you're too dumb to build things anymore" award.

If they don't take to another dealer if possible. If not Lawyer up..
Stop messing with the stealerships. Get it fixed via a good transmission shop and sue the stealership and Toyota.

First of all... the dealer did a multipoint inspection but that doesn’t include a test drive so your transmission concern would not have ever been detected. Duh. Second, If you have platinum, it will be covered. Sometimes they send an agent down, but there’s also ways around that too. The advisor could have just called back until they get an agent that says “Sure just replace it”.

You’re the kind of guy that has a toilet vehicle and is too cheap to do the simplest of repairs and doesn’t believe in preventative maintenance. I see people like you all the time. Then you get shocked when your quote is 5 grand.

You are exactly correct. I am a math geek and have done part time insurance actuary work, meaning that I did the math for an insurance company that they base their policy costs off of.

That is how a health insurance policy can cost $5k/year and pay out $250k for one person, but very little for others. Also the reason that Obama Care requires healthy people to have insurance whether they want it or not, so they can pay for the people that do use it.

It looks like they are calling the manual transmission and automatic transmission a transfer case (as in transferring power). The ambiguity in the literature can be misleading at best. It would be nice to see the actual contract for corrected wording.

How do you know they didn't test drive the vehicle? He didn't drop it off for a free oil change. I assume he dropped it off with a complaint of "trans slips while driving". They test drove the truck, found the metal in the pan and called him back.

The service writers hesitation when OP said it should be covered under warranty wasn't a sign of being shady, he just now has to get approval from somebody farther up like an inspector. Thursday is a holiday, inspector will get there Friday, so he offered a rental in the meantime. What's the big deal? The service writer can't always know what kind of warranty every customer has on their truck. He wasn't in the room in the sales office when OP bought it. It's his job to relay info between the tech and the customer. Whether or not it gets covered is completely out of his hands. "Calling back until he gets a agent that will say fix it" is not how it works.

Not really sure what this post is about

You misunderstood. I was referring to when he said it was in three weeks prior FOR A DIFFERENT CONCERN. They likely didn’t test drive the vehicle and if they did, they clearly weren’t looking for a transmission concern. Also I wasn’t referring to the service advisors hesitation and YES actually that IS how it works if they don’t want to wait for someone to come down and inspect the transmission. That’s how MANY advisors get the job approved quickly. I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do, it’s just what happens.[/QUOTE]

    I did misunderstand you

What I dont understand is why everyone in here has some ego driven need to determine the outcome of the situation in the first 5 mins

Just to clarify about when I took my truck in to the dealer three weeks earlier, it was actually closer to a month earlier. Anyway, see my thread titled "Stuck in Park" for details.

The dealer called me this morning and said they will replace the transmission under warranty at no cost to me, and they will provide me a rental car while they work on it. Yea. That's what I was hoping would happen. Thanks for all your comments.

That’s terrific! Your extended warranty worked just the way it was supposed too! Let the naysayers munch on that.
