I know what OEM injectors cost and there's no way you got 6 new injectors plus the labor for only $700, especially at a dealership. Here's a link to Camelback Toyota. One injector is $132.

They probably serviced the injectors for you for that price. Or, they replaced one injector and the rest of the cost was labor.

This right here is so f*cking true. You think they did the job right because you have no noticeable issues. But, you or the next mechanic starts tearing apart the engine for another job down the road and realize the idiot mechanic stripped a bolt or nut, broke off a bolt, or left something disconnected (missing fastener) and now you have to deal with their screw up or the shop doing the work gives you a phone call explaining what they found and how much more money it's going to cost you in labor to fix the last guy's screw-up.

"Professional" or "Certified" Mechanics doesn't mean they are conscientious and do good work. All it means is they get paid to be a mechanic and they might have some certifications. Most automotive work isn't rocket science. If you have the Right Information, Right Tools and Right Level of Patience, you can handle most of your automotive maintenance, repair and modification needs. There are specialty things that I don't do for myself like welding since I don't know how to weld yet and haven't bought a welder. I'm also probably not going to start rebuilding engines, transmissions, transfer cases or differentials either. I'd rather buy a rebuilt one from a reputable shop that has experienced guys doing the work day in and day out.

A lot of shops have a flat rate system of paying their mechanics. The faster the mechanic finishes a job, the more money they can make. Do you really want a guy working on your rig that is in a rush? In my experience, when I move fast and don't take my time, I'm more prone to make mistakes. Ever wonder how these guys cross thread so many fasteners? It's because they don't take the time to make sure the fastener is going on or in straight before they get their air ratchet onto it.

Take up the challenge and start turning wrenches. The knowledge you gain, sense of accomplishment and money savings is well worth it. Do your own work and sleep better at night knowing it was done right.
