Your right. Figured his truck is still pretty new plus the paint is on side of vehicle. Didn't consider the possible fitment issues.

Things would be a lot worse if the manufacturers owned the dealerships that sold their products. There wouldn’t be any competition and only sales when they need to push inventory. Also they wouldn’t give a shit or want your trade. If they did take them they might even be less than what most dealers pay now.

Well, it’s his truck, not theirs. They damaged his truck at no fault to the owner. He pays monthly for that truck most likely and works hard to maintain it. If he had did the damage himself, I get your point, but he didn’t. It should be fixed to HIS standards or compensated in such a way that HE is happy with. Period.

What will you do when you return to the HD parking lot and find your first whopper of a ding/dent in one of your doors and there is no one around?

That's why you park far away, maybe miles, a place like your house and just walk... no more dings!

I absolutely agree with this I wasn’t arguing against it. He should get it fixed and move on. People are saying he should get a new truck over this or hugely compensated. They informed him and owned up to it. They should absolutely fix this.
Diminished value over a door ding. This is a truck not a ferrari. A small amount of body work not reported to his insurance isn’t going to diminish the value of a the truck

I ran a small "social experiment" a couple times, parking way out in the boonies at work and a retail store. What happened? People #$&%!@& started parking right next to me! I seriously cannot explain the logic on that one.

That happens to me frequently, I park far away from others just about everywhere I go and it amazes me how often someone ends up next to my truck.

I found the sweet spot is 2/3ish away in the lot. Enough to protect from the masses, but just close enough to avoid attracting people that just wanna be assholes and make a point.

If I do park at the end of the lot, I park next to another nice vehicle, and the opposite orientation so our passenger doors are towards each other and can help block each other from the heathens.

Had you pursued the repair through the other driver's insurance company, you could have selected a repair facility with lifetime warranty of their repair work.

The catch is, that paint-less dent removal is rarely guaranteed for a lifetime because of the high probability any micro adhesion issues would not manifest themselves until the paint ages.

The best course of action is to demand the dealership provide you a lifetime warranty on that specific damaged area. It kicks the can down the road for them, as you are within your right to demand a more comprehensive repair than what they paid for.

On the plus side. I bet fewer than half of all dealerships would have even admitted to it.

I would advise you to write a brief letter, explaining that you appreciate their honesty, and efforts to repair the damage, that you understand the miscomunication, but that you need to look out for the long term reliability of the repair. If it becomes an issue, you expect them to take care of you.

If there is no visible damage what is the issue. You advised smudges, are the smudges permanent or can they be washed off? If there is no damage, take the free detail and call it a day. If there is damage still, ask for a free service and call it a day. It's not the end of the world. Also, get sliders and that will help get rid of door dings . Only my opinion. The dealership could have denied the whole thing.

    Yeah.
If the damage is completely repaired, really all they did wrong was have it repaired without notifying you first and letting you decide what to do. If paintless dent repair took care of it, that's better than Bondo and paint that won't match. And, at least they told you -- sounds like you might not have even known otherwise. I'd take the full detail and some free services.

I do this because I’m impatient waiting for people to move who are waiting on closer parking spots. An I also like the walk
