My 2008 Toyota Tacoma with 160,000 . I have the dealership Service the transmission every 60,000. Before I took my truck in this time I marked the bolts with the felt tip pen. I’ve had the truck back about a day and a half and I decided to look at my marks to see if they were off any. The felt tip lines match up perfectly and the bottom of my pan and fill plug have no residue. I’m thinking this dealership screwed me.

Called my Service of visor she put me on hold talk to the shop foreman and said the service was performed. I still feel the underside of the truck is way to clean.

Does anyone have any thoughts or can the dealership perform the service and make zero mess????

I’m also bringing the truck back Monday night for Tuesday morning driveshaft rebuild. U-joints covered by under the recall deal. I stepped up for a carrier bearing.

I’m thinking I should crack the overflow plug and see what the fluid looks like should I do this On a hot trans or a cold trans?

Here’s the photos of my marks that I made and the oddly cleanliness of the Bolts

Yeah, they didn't touch that. Ridiculous. Check the fluid.

    ETA. Change dealers ASAP.

Just playing devils advocate here, but it would make sense to me that if they did service it, that when they tightened the plugs back up, they should be in the same spot, unless they were loose, or over tightened. Maybe next time, instead of marking just an alignment mark, color the whole edges of the bolts black so that you can see marks from where the tools would have been used to tighten and loosen them.

For the record, i also dont think they touched it. I dont trust the dealers whatsoever

Kudos to you for not trusting anyone to work on your rig! That's pretty damning evidence right there.

I remember a long time ago hearing that they'd use the transmission cooling lines for changing out the fluid. So, check that out. </I am not a mechanic>

Felt pen doesn't prove anything, you'll need to use a paint pen to bridge the gap from bolt head to surface.

My dealer will review security video for any claims like this. They can see into our bays.

That said its odd the bolts line up perfectly again, but the stains on the trans looks like brake cleaner residue. It was likely cleaned.

They could have use an inline exchanger as well, not sure if the 2WD models have cooler hoses though.

This and use white so you'd be able to see any tool marks. They definitely didn't touch those you'd see some weeping, wicking where the trans fluid seeped and was wiped off.

The way our flush machine works at my shop is through the cooler lines.

If they used a flush machine they likely went to the cooler lines and flushed it from there.

Thanks for the info... I would think if they use the cooler lines you would still need to crack the overflow and check for proper Fill. I will be checking the cooling lines tomorrow and yes my truck does have the tow package with the cooler.

I’m kind of stuck taking the truck back to the dealer . As they were going to perform my universal joint recall Tuesday morning early.

I’m going to be swinging by the dealership on my way home tomorrow I’m just out of time today.

Should I check the front of the truck cooling lines or should I check the cooling lines coming out of the transmission?

I typically service from the front near the cooler... but it depends on the vehicle and ease of access.
