So I went to a local dealer here today to buy a Oil Filter and a few quarts of 0W16 Oil for my wifes Camry. When the guy came back and put the box on the counter I noticed 2 of the quart bottles were a different color. I pulled them out and they were Fram Oil. He had 3 quarts of toyota oil and the 2 quarts of Fram oil in the box. I told him no way I only wanted toyota oil and I would go to another dealer.

I didnt even know Fram made oil but after a google search I see they do. Just frustrated me that he threw it in a box and tried to sell to me without me noticing. Dont like the fact of mixing oils also. He explained that they ran out of Toyota oil and that was the last 3 quarts.

I have always changed my own oil but makes you wonder what are they putting in the vehicles they are doing the oil changes on. Folks may not always be getting what they think they are.

As long as it meets their specs its pretty moot.

Nothing wrong with fram oil. It’s their oil filters you gotta worry about

Ford dealer I'm a tech at offers four different oils in lowest to highest order, cheap $10 oil change special synthetic blend pennzoil, ford synthetic blend in bulk, ford full synthetic in motorcraft bottles, mobil 1 full synthetic in bottles. If we run out of one we use the next better grade of oil to get the correct total amount, not really a issue.
Also why the hell are you buying oil from the dealer if your doing your own oil change.

I really dont want to mix two different brands of oil on a new car.
Do you mix brands and types of Oil ? I am using Toyota Oil while vehicle is under Warranty. Maybe not necessary but the way I want to do it. I use Mobil 1 any other time.

Buy your oil at Wally World... Mobil 1, pennzoil, super tech... all will be fine. The Toyota branded oil is good too but going to take a whole lot more of your $$ because, we’ll, Toyota.

    Fram doesn't make oil.
They buy it and brand it.

    Toyota doesn't make oil.
They buy it and brand it.

Are the Toyota and Fram oils that the parts guy handed you the same? No idea.
Do they meet the same standards? You should be able to tell by looking at the containers.

Buying oil from a single brand doesn't mean that each of containers you buy are produced by the same manufacturer.
As long as you are buying oil of an equal grade, it means it meets the requirements of that grade of oil.

If you only want to buy Toyota oil that's fine. Just because you are buying Toyota oil doesn't mean you are getting what you think you are getting (other than meeting the minimum standards for that classification of oil).

They don’t get the oil for their oil changes from the quarts. They come in 50 gallon drums

Buying a Toyota filter and oil at dealer here cost me about $7 more then buying a filter and Mobil 1 at Wally World. Also Toyota oil is made by Mobil 1 with a additive package to meet Toyota specs
