Love that shit when the customer wants something special that has to be ordered from down the street, is told so, decides to wait, and bitches its taking to long. For some reason people who buy used trade ins of other brands from my Ford dealer keep coming back for oil changes but it takes 30 minutes to an hour for the dodge, bmw, chevy, honda, nissan, ect oil filter to come from O'Reillys.
Best I've seen yet is we had a customer bring his Infinity in 20-30 minutes before closing for a oil change, he assumed that since we a FORD dealer had parts for his F150 we would also have parts for his INFINITY, He was so pissed we wouldn't finish it that day.

To the OP if you specifically requested Toyota oil and they swapped it, that’s lame. If you didn’t, I can see the leeway the dealer would use to swap out oil thinking it wasn’t a big deal. I don’t see any issues with what you did. Your car, your oil. I’d be the same way personally if I requested specific oil.

Back when I had a turbo Subaru I used specific oil simply because the cars responded better with 1-2 oils based on UOAs posted on BITOG forums (and my own personal UOA results).

Realistically any high quality synthetic will be more than enough for these cars using proper intervals, but I totally get the piece of mind that comes with knowing you put in the oil you wanted to put in. Since this is the Internet everyone tears down everyone because it’s fun and it’s just text on a screen and not real people, but count me in as one that understands.

    In short.

Match the API (American Petroleum Institute) grade and the viscosity. Brand matters little.

Brand is good for "brobrag points" and wallet drain.

I can't take credit for that. I picked up that name from the Bobistheoilguy site.

Some advocate not change for 50,000 miles.

Although, I'd suggest to follow the Maintenance Schedule in the Owner's Manual for YOUR truck

I get wanting all the oil to be the same brand from an OCD standpoint. But in reality, the 2 brands of oil will mix together as long as they’re the same type and weight (e.g. synth 0W-20), and your truck will never know. Just make sure to delete all your calls, texts, pics and anything else so it never finds out.

Nothing wrong with that. It's a tried and true name brand. Genuine Toyota Motor Oil (GTMO) is made ExxonMobil....though it appears to be a custom blend with added moly (anti wear agent) according to virgin oil analysis (UOA) from Bobistheoilguy.

    Check build thread!
Iirc Toyota oil is literally just one of the off the shelf brands bottled into a different container.

Too late. You missed the mileage point. Now, you need to wait until 100K.

Thank you. Doesnt bother me a bit. I have thick skin. I learned a long time ago that most stuff on internet forums is noise. Entertaining:) I do my own research.

As you stated my frustration was I requested Toyota oil and he tried to slip in a couple bottles of Fram oil without me knowing. I understand Mixing oils will not blow up your engine are probably hurt it at all. But I am anal and I like to do things the right way. I have been changing oil for our truck fleet at work for years so I am usually changing oil in some vehicle almost every other day.

There are lots of good oils I could use in my Toyota truck and wifes car but as I stated I am using Toyota oil while the vehicles are under warranty. I understand you dont have to do this But I am going to.

Also Toyota oil is very good oil made by Mobil 1 with a special additive package for the toyota engine. Has a high Moly count. So I might continue to use after warranty. Dealer is right down the street from my work and faster and easier then going to wally world for just a few more bucks.

    Cheers!
