My Toyota dealer seems to have used Pennzoil, if I believe the reminder sticker, Pennzoil-branded.

Now, I had changed my oil before, Mobil 1, and also had oil changed before at same dealership, now under different owner.

    Questions:

Should Pennzoil work equally well as M1 in my base 2012 Taco 2.7L?

What was prior owner, or T dealers in general typically use for oil changes? isn't there a factory deal with a large oil supplier in place?

It won’t make a difference at all. Wouldn’t even bother thinking about it anymore.

It will work fine and should have no issues

I do my own oil changes and use mobile 1 as a preference.

You are fine. Nothing to worry about.

If it makes you feel better, I’ve run no less than 4 different brands of oil in my truck. And I’m not worried about it at all.

I’ve even run run different weight oils. (I don’t recommend it though)

To me, the most important thing is clean oil of the proper viscosity.

Let’s rehash the old stories about being a wax based oil and ruining engines. Check over at www.Bobistheoilguy.com and see about oil

They use pennzoil in my dealer aswell for the synthetic blend for 5w which they dont have a toyota brand. I have always used m1. Personally if someone put penzoil i wouldnt be able to sleep at night and would change it imediately. lol.

Go out and get your gun so you can shoot your car in the head. It will never be the same again and needs to be put down

If it's any consolation we've gotten a decent amount of spark plug change threads this week. Hopefully that'll hold you over till the oil change thread supply chain issues resolve.

Why? I used Pennzoil Platinum exclusively in my 2nd gen in harsher conditions than most people on this forum would ever see and the oil analysis was always excellent.

You all have fun with this, but still, nobody answered the question about dealers being bound, or not to a corporate oil brand deal. Is P likely a cheaper option to the dealer?

I know when I worked at Firestone they bought whatever brown label was cheapest. There weren't even different weights to put in, you got an oil change and you got whatever oil they had coming out of the spout.

If you're that upset change it yourself or take it to another dealership that will tell you what you want to hear.
