I was at the dealership for maintenance today and was talking to the service writer. He's been there a fairly long time and had some interesting observations. Everything coming off the delivery trucks is sold before it gets there. People are lining up to pay above MSRP and at that they aren't getting to pick what they want. Toyota is still lagging behind on production and it won't be resolved quickly.

I took a walk out into the lot and saw about three new vehicles sitting there. One was a new Tundra SR5 in Barcelona Red. It was pretty standard although it had the convenience package. Sticker was $50K.
They had about half a dozen used Tacomas from 2018 to 2021. No price stickers of course. Oddly enough they had one fairly low mileage 2014 regular cab Tacoma as well. I think they had one 4Runner, which I think was used.

Lots of Rav4 and Highlanders. Not even a lot of Camrys or Carollas.

The center of the lot was empty. You cold play a Little League game and not hit a car.

This is a pretty high volume dealership that's been around since the early 1970s.

 

I bought my 2022 SR at Berglund Toyota in Lynchburg, VA at MSRP last month. That dealer was great, I highly recommend them.

 

Toyota, it's like the less they build the more people want them.

 

Back in January I bought my brand new 2022 Tacoma SR at MSRP, with no markup or B.S., thru Lake Charles Toyota in Louisiana.

I don't know if they have an MSRP policy in place, or if I just caught them at the right time.

But they had my truck listed at MSRP on their website despite it still being in transit. It wasn't pre-sold and I bought it before I got to the lot. They were straight forward and sold it at flat MSRP plus TTL. No drama at all.

Granted, this was back in January so can't say where they stand now.

My guess is that at the moment that list would be very short.

 

One other factor to consider is...that that dealer add on the Toyoguard option...which costs $699 and really does nothing for the consumer. Every dealer in my area except for one orders every vehicle with this option. Also, every option that you really don't want is also somewhat of a waste. So just don't look at mark-up alone.

 

I purchased my TRD OR at Bobby Rahal Toyota in Mechanicsburg, PA at MSRP. Good buying experience to boot. One thing to note, right now they are only selling to PA residents.

That $699 package is a distributor add-on from SE Toyota Distributors, so every Toyota sold in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and North and South Carolina will have it as a distributor added option. Not sure if other distributors add it, or if dealers not covered by a distributor add something similar.

Mountain States Toyota in Denver, CO. Steered snobby US Army officer younger bro to get his '22 4Runner for a bit less than MSRP (thanks to Toyota Finance's $500 military discount) and also a family friend for her '22 Highlander.

 

Toyota Serra in Traverse City, MI.
They do not charge a cent over MSRP, and did not ask for a deposit either. I was on the list for a DCSB LR OR since October last year. I got the call as soon as they got one.

 

I just bought mine at BigTwo Toyota in Chandler, AZ. No markup.

 

Red River Toyota in Wynne, AR was selling at MSRP when I bought mine a few weeks ago.

 

Fox Toyota Rochester, MI is selling at MSRP for all vehicles. My TRD OR and my wives Rav4 AWD both at or below sticker in the last 3 months. Great upfront dealer.
