Took mine in for inspection yesterday and told them about the harsh ride etc... They drove it and told me it was fine. I went out to the truck and pointed out to them where the bumper stops had left marks from hitting and they finally agreed. No complaints. They acted about how I figured they would. Getting the new parts put on after my cruise next week.

Getting my '09 done at Newark Toyota World. At first the head service manager claimed I was too close to the load capacity with my 500-600lb load and that it was normal for the truck to sag. I told him this was unacceptable, and so they called Toyota Assistance. Since I had already logged a complaint, they then agreed to do the TSB (still not updated to included 2009 model year).

I went to Toyota of Glendora (in Glendora, California) and at first they weren"t going to do it. They pulled out a TSB that only referred to the 4X4. So I pulled out my lap top and showed him the TSB I printed out from either here or Toyotanation (sorry can't remember which) and all of a sudden they were able to fix it no problem. the ride is sooooooo much better. If you haven't had it done yet, I highly suggest you do. Looking at the '09s when I was there, the rear leaf springs look just like my old ones did. So they'll probably add them to the list at some point as well. if it weren't for the forums I would have never know.

I'm getting mine done right now at RK Toyota in Hampton, VA. I told them about it on Saturday, they ordered the parts and they called me to tell me they were in this morning. Still waiting to see how everything turns out. So far, so good!

:rolleyes:I took mine to Cherry Hill Toyota here in NJ. Dealer claims he's never dealt with anybody who brought in a Tacoma with complaints of the truck bottoming out with a load in the back. Service Manager says he needs to call Toyota Corprate for guidance. I got a call back this evening saying they will order the 4 leaf pack, but strongly advised me against doing the upgrade as the ride will be really harsh almost untolerable according to Toyota Corporate. He also said the TSB should only done for trucks used for construction or contracor work. The Service Maanger goes on to say I'm on my own if they do the change and that Corporate warned him that most people who have done the TSB want to go back to the three leaf pack. I explained to him that I expect a firm ride since it is a TRD off road 4x4, but he said expect it to ride really bad almost like it will become an old Wild West Chattanoga Wagon.

My co-worker has a 2008 Ford Ranger 4x4 with a 4 leaf pack on the rear, and his truck doesn't ride harsher than my Tacoma.....Makes me think Toyota just doesn't like having to flip the bill, hence the overblown horror story. Can 1 additional spring make the ride that much worse....it's a truck, it's supposed to be bouncy.

They told me the same thing here in MD. Get it done. The ride is actually better and handles better too. Just my 2 cents

San Marcos Toyota in San Marcos, TX, just south of Austin.

I'll note here that I didn't get any questions from the dealer when I asked to get the TSB implemented. I mentioned that I had a problem and had called Toyota and that the Toyota rep suggested I get the TSB. They ordered the parts, got them in two days and called me for an appt to get the TSB done. Nothing to it. Nice.

    2008 PreRunner SR5 (not TRD or 4X4)
No load ride height is up a half inch in front and a full inch in the rear (measured at the center of the wheel from the ground to the body).

How did they raise the front with only replacing the shocks?

    :)

Cherry Hill Toyota has been cool about it. I did mention I called Toyota Corporate before I contacted the dealer and mentioned the TSB. I don't blame the dealer for consulting corporate as they claim they have never had to deal with the leaf spring TSB, but with the amount of people living in and around Philly, not one person has requested the leaf spring TSB:eek:. However after the picture Cherry Hill painted of the ride I will get, I now have three fears in life; fear of height, Swine Flu, and the post TSB ride in the second gen Tacoma

Admittedly, I have only driven it today, but it is fine with no load. Added firmness is hardly noticeable, but the better handling is obvious. So, I think it is going to be a really good deal. Handles a lot more like it should have to begin with. Should be a great improvement when I load it up.

Just as with the Swine Flu, there's really not a whole lot to worry about with the spring TSB. I just got my 2009 Sport back from Newark Toyota World and it's much improved. Granted you notice the stiffer driving briskly over speed bumps, but for most on-road conditions the ride is no harsher. If anything, the lack of power squat and the firmer cross vehicle load transfer over single sided events (read potholes - sorry I vehicle dynamics engineer geeked out there) makes it much better.

I need to load mine up too. Anyone want to stop by and help move all the manure that was my back-up plan for convincing the dealer to do my springs?

Drove mine on some curvy roads today and must say the handling is so much better. The truck really holds a much steadier line through turns, now! This is a lot more like it should have been to begin with. It is much firmer going over speed bumps, but it is, again, more like I would have expected it to be anyway. It really did give an awkward bounce when crossing speed bumps before. It doesn't throw you around in the cab near as bad now, whereas it pogo sticked a bit much before. I like it, a lot better!!!

What exactly is the TSB for? I was not aware of any problems with my '09.
