I imagine it is just protocol for getting TSB and for ordering parts.

I called McGeorge Toyota in Richmond VA and spoke with a service rep about the rear spring TSB. He said that they would have to inspect it first to get authorization, that he couldn't order any parts till that happened. I brought it in for the recall work (cut the pedal) and dropped it off. I spoke briefly with the rep and he said they would look at it.

I waited till they called me saying they were done. I went down there expecting to have to put up some fight but no such thing. The rep said they inspected and unfortunately will have to order the springs so I will need to come back. No fight, no question. I will have to make another appointment when they get the springs in but that is fair enough. I'm sure Toyota's protocol is to have inspect the truck to ensure the vin and part numbers match. Also to see if the person has done anything extra that might void it. It will take two appointments but it is a lot of work and $.

I must say that my buying experience with McGeorge Toyota of Richmond was great and now so is my service experience. I do still have to have it done but at least it was no fight. Great group to deal with.

Took it into Larry H Miller Toyota in Murray, UT. I have really been on the fence on having the Rear Suspension TSB done and have to eat crow. After a few trips with real weight in the back I decided to do it. When I called to make the appt they said that there were no other recalls on the truck except the 90L pedal chop. I brought in a copy of the TSB along with a picture of me loaded up with firewood in the bed and trailer. I also did the math and calculated how much load I had in the bed and tongue weight. I wrote that on the back of the picture. They agreed to do it but I can a lecture on not overloading the truck. Whatever!

For those that wonder, the ride is much stiffer. I don't have and am not planning on lifting the truck. I actually kind of like the 3/4 inch higher look.

I also complained about the constant squeak after running the A/C/heater blower for about 1/2 hour. They couldn't duplicate it. I don't think they let it run. It happened driving home. Next time I'm driving around the city and it squeaks I'm pulling into the dealer and let them hear it.

At first I didn't let them touch the pedal but after thinking about it I decided that there are more important things to argue about. It was done and I don't care. It's not like I look at the pedals of the truck and admire their beauty anyway. I didn't notice much difference.

Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda/Rockville, MD performed the work with no questions asked. I came in armed with a copy of the TSB and an argument prepared, but instead I got exactly what I wanted without a fight. Talk to Donnie D. in the service department and he'll hook you up - I'll definitely be going back for any other TSB/warranty work.

Champion Toyota in N.E. Philly just did mine. They seemed a little evasive at first and told me to bring it back loaded. I took it back with a 55 gallon drum of water and two old wheels and tires. They did it after that. I also noticed I got black Tokico shocks, but its got the 4 leaf pack. My truck is a non trd double cab, and it made a huge improvement.

Hey, argm31i My brother lives about 2 miles from Jim Hudson Toyota, and when I vist him (I live in PA) I take my Tacoma to Jim Hudson Toyota for work. They have GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! Plus the price of labor is way cheaper than here in PA.

Running early for work, so I stopped at the service dept to ask about the TSB.
Having read a rant from a Toyota service tech about how mentioning the TSB removes the diagnosis time from work order. I decided to just mention that it felt like it had no rear suspension when I took my mower in for service.
It took about a half hour to check it out and the order parts.
The service writer told me to come back next Monday due to their alignment machine being down until service rep comes in on Friday.
I will update when the TSB is completed.
Just for the record,I am the second owner. I bought this truck, an 08 PreRunner, from the same dealer with 27K on it.

My dealer, Jay Toyota in Columbus,Ga installed leaf springs and shocks called for by this service bulletin. The only hitch was that they had to order the parts and kept my truck overnight. My truck now has a slight rake and I'm very happy with the ride.
I would think that Toyota surely must bear the cost of this mod and not the dealer, since it is a design deficiency. I don't see why a dealer would not willingly perform this work. I hope others have the same experience I had.
Thanks to Tacoma World members who made me aware of this TSB and it's benefits.

    TSB complete
The ride is WAAAY better than I thought it would be, atleast unloaded. I will be going to pick up my mower from the shop on Friday and will truly test the improvements then.

My new shock/struts are the correct PN but they are painted gray, with a yellow stripe. Does anyone know if they are still the TRD sport unit or something different?

My dealer installed black shocks with a yellow stripe on my SR5. They are Tokicos, which nobody seems to like, but I'm very pleased with the ride.

Expressway Toyota in Dorchester, MA did my TSB after mild hassle. I did buy the truck from them so that might have motivated them. But good people overall.
