Took my truck in for toyotacare maintenance. When I got home i noticed 3 out of my 4 wheels were scuffed to shit. What pissed me off is it's clear the technician tried to sharpie over one of the scuffs to hide what he'd done.

They said they would paint the wheels for me. But we'll see what ends up happening, hope they take care of it, so we can avoid legality matters.

On the bright side, if I have to paint all 4 wheels what color should I go with? Its currently a graphite gunmetal. It' a Silver truck. Maybe the volk mag blue?

What were they doing to scuff them? I assume you got tires there and had them mount them?

There is another thread going on right now, unfortunately, it's very common to have wheels scuffed when tires are mounted. Sounds like they're taking care of you, I wouldn't bring up legality talk with them it you'll just make them mad.

As far as the color, I'd say a definite no to blue wheels, but it's not my truck. Also if you think they chipped easily before, wait until after they are painted. You can barely look at painted wheels the wrong way without them getting chipped.

Never let dealer rotate my wheels anymore. This happened twice at Lexus dealer on my GS 350 f sport. They replaced them, after a lot of bitching.

The dealer has an obligation to return the vehicle to you in the condition it was received. Get an estimate to repair the wheels and send them the bill. You have a valid claim rather than a complaint...and claims are always heard before complaints. Pocket the cash and put it towards a new set of wheels.

    This guy businesses!

This does a couple of things for you: it shows you know "the rules", that you are willing to hold them to it, and that you know exactly what you want to make you "whole". If you go to them with the repair cost, and say I want new wheels or a check for $X (based on this estimate), then they have a simple choice.

PLenty of people just go in to complain and/or want ridiculous concessions (eg " I WANT A NEW TRUCK!!!!!111one"). If you go in, matter-of-factly, and state your position they'll probably cut you a check with less fuss.

side note: Dont waste your time with people that can't make the decision. If the manager has to make the call talk to him.

Moral of the story don’t let toyota dealership touch your aftermarket wheels. I specifically tell them I only want oil changes. I know people will give me crap about that but they do my oil changes just fine!

Hope they take care of you!

I hope...but it won’t be the first time where they didn’t. Usually try to repaint it.

I had a scratched wheel after I took my truck in to the closest dealership to have a flat repaired. The whole process was botched because they never started a ticket and just left my truck sitting in the service area for an hour.

Anyways, I didn’t notice the scratches until I got home. I made multiple calls to the service manager and GM but no one returned them. I made a detailed 1 star review with uploaded photos on Google and miraculously they contacted me within 24 hours. I allowed them to replace the wheel since it was just for one.

I like the idea from the post above about sending them an invoice for replacement, especially if there is damage to most or all the wheels. I’d rather get money for new ones.

The OEM TRD O/R wheels on my 2nd Gen got banged up pretty good in those same areas from someone being careless with the impact wrench during basic tire rotations. It eventually caused the paint to chip & flake. I filed a complaint/case with Toyota explaining that this was a direct result of careless technicians. They paid for 4 brand new wheels.

Based on those pictures, unless there is a lot more damage, no way is that deserving of new wheels. When I first replied there was no pictures. Now that I see them, I honestly wouldn't have said anything. And I'm pretty dang picky. You're going to run into that the life of your truck. If that amount of damage bothers you, I'd be setting up my garage to do the work yourself.

Push for new wheels first then go from there.

Just let them paint them. If you start pushing for new wheels, they probably will laugh at you.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
Honda dealer scratched all 4 of my wheels on the S2000. The wheels were 100/100 perfection beforehand. No curbs, no pitting, etc.

I complained and the service manager said it wasn't them yadda yadda... he wanted to refinish all four wheels. I was not happy with that and requested new wheels from Honda. He still refused.

I sued the dealer in small claims court for cost of four new wheels, court costs/fees, and to have another shop swap rims and balance etc. The owner of the dealer was upset their GM didn't address it and he paid for everything.

Moral of the story: don't back down. Don't settle for mediocre. Make them make it right.

People have no drive for personal quality of work these days. I’d venture to guess that you had to point it out vs the employee pointing it out himself?

I wouldn't bring up legal matters yet but they need to make it right. Who cares if that would happen during the normal course of the trucks life...it can but didn't. They damaged something of yours regardless of how small it is. Honest mistakes happen but this person should have said something vice trying to color in their mistake. Integrity matters and they need to right their wrong IMO.
