OK, I have said this like 5 times in this thread.
TOYOTA IS NOT TURNING THESE OFF RANDOMLY. IF YOU GO IN FOR THE SENSOR RECALL, THEY WILL GIVE YOU A FORM THAT YOU SIGN TO TURN IT OFF, IF YOU DONT SIGN IT THEY DONT DO THE RECALL. IF YOU HAVE HAD THE RECALL DONE, THEY WONT GO BACK AND TURN IT OFF WHEN YOU GO IN FOR ANYTHING ELSE.

You go in for a oil change... they dont care
You go in for a fuel pump recall... they dont care

You go in for the tss recall.. they do care

I think Toyota wasn’t out of their minds when they put the radar sensor in the grille. If you are not affected by having modified your vehicle, the placement makes perfect sense and it hides well behind the garnish. The 2016 and 2017 models have the bracket, but no sensor, so that was clearly their intention all along.

The thing they didn’t anticipate is all the grille-swapping that goes on, specifically with 3G Tacomas. Let’s face it, grille-swapping is a 3G thing. There are a few other vehicles where people may do this, and the odd 2G Taco and 4Runner, but I don’t think anyone could have imagined how grille-swapping, en masse, would become a “normal” thing to do with 3G Tacos.

Lifting, on the other hand, they should have anticipated, which I believe they did. That’s why the unit has some ability to be recalibrated.

    OK BRO.
I realize how things are supposed to work. My concern is when people operate outside of established procedure (like making sure the form is signed before something is done). That is not exactly an unheard of condition. I have had dealerships do things I didn't ask for. If you haven't, that's great.

But toyota isnt turning these things off unless you go into the dealer to get the tss recall done... thats just not happening, and if you think it is happening, then you need to change your tinfoil hat because its not working.

If they turn it off without getting the form signed, then its not legally binding and they need to turn it back on. If you signed the form, then its on you.

I have not made one single statement that I think Toyota is blanket bricking the TSS. My statement was to prevent (hopefully) the possibility. That's it. So thank you for your advise regarding tinfoil hats, but it's really not needed.
Totally understand that without consent its not binding, and I am quite familiar with informed consent requirements. However, that doesn't mean that (again due to human error) it cannot happen. People make mistakes, people go outside of procedure, people violate policy. It happens. Sometimes by mistake. Putting a note on the truck to not brick the TSS sensor was an idea for hopefully minimizing the possibility that it could happen.
For the record, I agree that you should read what you're signing. If the OP signed consent, then that's on him.

I apologise for the tinfoil comment, wasn't needed.

But yes dealers will do things without consent, but in this case they need signed consent.

Totally understood, no problem; I think we're actually pretty closely in agreement. And as a general rule, I rely on the dealership following procedure.
I go to a dealership that's on the other side of DFW from me. Like 2 counties away. I go there because the dealerships between where I live and where I got my truck are known for shenanigans.

This is reason 485 why not to take your vehicle to the dealership for anything other than a recall and even then I question it. My truck shakes in fear whenever I mention the stealership.

Only problem is I didn’t go in for a recall. I went in for Toyota care service. They then said I have afew recalls and I need to sign some waivers before they do it. So just read the waivers carefully or don’t sign them. I wasn’t told directly about what exactly they were going to do as well as I declined the TSS recall the previous visit but they didn’t have me sign anything so it appears the recall rolled over to this visit because I thought the recall was for something else. I unfortunately just put my trust in the service guy and didn’t read the waiver fully. Had he mentioned anything about disabling the PCS system I would have declined. Lesson learned. Just read everything you sign... I’m going to ask to see my waivers when I go in next time to see if it said anything about disabling it permanently

Yeah, those are just add on things.
The point I am making is that if you go in for a oil change and you have a pro grill, they are not going to turn off the system. If you go in for a oil change and they say you have recalls and want to add them on then they can turn it off since its required for the recall.

Bottom line is know what your getting when you sign up for it.

At least they're not taking your aftermarket Pro grille due to some sort of copyright infringement. Wouldn't that be something "we took your replica grill along with the TSS due to safety and faux grille". There would be a lot of tacos missing teeth...

Laugh, Toyota was taking and disposing of front mats that were not factory during the 2nd gen gas pedal fiasco. I know 2 people that lost their Husky mats. And got a hacksawed gas pedal.

"What do you want me to do lady, chop it off?" Sounds like the original 'cab chop'.

I have a 2nd gen but I'm pretty sure they chopped it since it was a lease before I purchased the truck after it was turned in. Never had a floor mat when I got it so IDK unless someone knows the original pedal size

In any of this, does it matter if the grill is a Toyota part? Like an older Trd OR with a 2020 grill, grill off another model, or a genuine Pro grill?

    I have a 19 with a 20 grill.

Basically if it’s not the factory grill it came with it’s considered modified.

Do you have a open recall for the front sensor? If you dont have a open recall for the front sensor then this doesnt apply to you.

Well if you go in for the recall - you could have the original grill and have a 4" lift and you sign the papers.....toast.

I just looked it up, and I do not other than the fuel pump so no concerns for me. Carry on.
