So I went to get my first oil change today at 6000km and six months the dealership and everything seemed normal. I drove away only to notice the red oil light come on at 1km. I was stuck on an overpass so I drove back to the dealership. I shut the engine down and told them I don't think you put in any oil. The pushed the truck into a Bay where the technician told me it's probably just low. I watched them check a dry dip stick and add 5 quarts of oil.

At this point they apologized and offered me a fee oil change. I know my engine is probably damaged so I called Toyota canada and they made a case number.

Has this ever happened to anyone what can Toyota do for me? I was planing on keeping this truck forever Help.

I'd expect that shit from Jiffy Lube but not from a damned dealership. Good idea to open a case and have a record of it.

I hope you left the truck there and refused to take possession of it. I would have. You should rat them out here!

What dealership is this in case some of us are near by? Also located in what might be considered central Canada.
-I think I'd be requesting a new engine.

I'd say they just bought you a new engine. That is unacceptable. Who knows what damage it has done that will show its ugly head further down the road, long after they remember their screw up. I would fight them now while it is still fresh on their mind!

I'm usually not down for this kind of stuff but in this case I might have caught every red light back or stopped to get gas.

When it rolled in, it would have been knocking like hell.

    was it knocking?

No matter what they tell you, your motor is permanently damaged. You cannot drive 2km with 0psi oil pressure and everything be ok. I wouldn't settle for anything less than a new engine, if you do you will never see 100k. My 2 cents.

Wow... I'm thinking the dealership has to know they just screwed the pooch with this one. I would have to hold my ground on a new motor. While it may not collapse next week or next month; that motor has some unpredictable internal damage now.

Actually you might be surprised how long an engine can run with no oil pressure. And if it was there for an oil change there would still be a film of oil on everything as well as oil inside most of the oil passages in the engine. I'm not saying there is absolutely zero damage but 1 kilometer isn't very far. When I rebuilt the engine in my landcruiser a few years back I failed to notice that one of the gaskets from the oil cooler to the block was stamped incorrectly. Thanks fel pro! So I had oil going into it but none coming out and heading to the engine. And the oil pressure gauge picks up on the cooler. So It read I had 50 pounds of oil pressure. I pulled the truck out of the garage and revved it up to 2500 RPM to break in the new cam for 15 minutes. After 10 minutes it bogged down and locked up. Out the motor came and upon inspecting everything and finding the problem the only thing I had to replace (besides all the gaskets with OE toyota) was the main bearings. Everything else was fine, even the rings. So yes it's good to start a case and I would certainly raise a stink about it. But the truck is probably fine.

In most cases, when the oil light comes on, it is too late, damage already done.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but if they do need to put a brand new engine in your truck, I believe your truck falls into the category of "Rebuilt Title".

I would be beyond pissed. Now you are left wondering if future problems will arise from running the engine without oil, and if you do have them give you a new engine, you get the bad mark on your title.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you. I would fight this as hard as you can and possibly have them give you a new truck.

I'd be hiring a lawyer if they did anything less than what you feel you deserve: new engine or new truck.

    PS, you're still a 1/2 quart low.

I'd be saying thanks for the new engine, change it. It's not my problem. I would never trust that engine again. If you don't get a new one it will be on your dime getting a new one one day. I would have left it there.

Tell them you want a a new truck. They screwed up, let them deal with it. Take NO for a answer. Change the engine or new truck. They have insurance, it's not a big deal for them. Time for them to own up and put it right.

Not only did you run it with no oil you did it right in the break in period with just regular old oil from the last change. Damage has been done. It will be in the filter now. The metal. If you had synthetic in it now it still would have done damage chances are but not as much. You run that engine metal on metal.

Note to others if somehow this stupid situation ever happens to you drive it till the truck stops then call them to come pick it up.
