I dropped my truck off this morning to have the dealership install this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/220993754058#ht_500wt_1413

they just called me and said the airbag I have is for a camry. I want to say BS, but I wont really know until I see it. Are they allowed to release the truck to me without the airbag? All I know is I am NOT spending $700 freakin dollars on an airbag

186 about..I think the company gets them off wrecked vehicles

dealership wanted 400 for a clock spring but I got them down to 220 + reimbursement when the clock spring recall goes live in a month

It does but I mean, I dunno, I would worry it would deploy and instead of an airbag you get confetti and party poppers.

No I compared the two side by side. Its identical even down to the stickers. I've had the new one since friday

I didn't want to involve insurance. So far with parts and labor I am in about 1k

well, the person at the dealership said everything was done except putting the actual airbag in. I assume that means the new clock spring is in and that you would just plug it in. I won't know until I go there after work and see that it actually is the wrong air bag..I mean the airbag is two plugs and two star bolts

Good luck man I hope everything works out for you. I would image if the airbag you got actually happens to be the wrong one you would be able to return it.

I don't know much about the inner workings of airbags, so where do those wires go? Do you have to solder them to wires that are on the part you bought off of eBay?

they solder into the new plugs that you plug into the airbag. Toyota said they wont solder. It's against their policy which is why I almost had to fork out 400 for a new clock spring. Luckily for me its going to be a recall item very soon.

I provided the new plugs, but they wont use them lol. I'm sure I can do it, I just want to be on the safer side, but that means more money

Sounds shady to me, why not use your insurance thats what its for. You pay every month so they need/should to pay now and then. I would like to see what the Carfax says also. Hope they put something on it to let buyers know.

Maybe the wrong airbag is inside and you can see it? What I mean is maybe it fits the wheel but the airbag is wrong so it won't wire up?

Dealerships like to sell stuff, they don't like to install anything they didn't sell you that is OEM. With that said, I follow a guideline when working on stuff.

If you buy the parts from another vender, you should plan on installing them yourself, or with help from someone with know how.

If you are not comfortable installing a particular part, get a quotes from multiple places for parts and labor, and make then bid the price down for the work. Then have a professional install it.

No way they will put some thing like that in I sure wouldn't. Nor would I modify any air bag any way shape or form I don't blame them a bit. If it doesn't work you'r screwed if it goes off for no reason you'r screwed. That would be a field day for the lawyers.
