I recently ordered a 2016 M/T Off Road. I was quoted a wait of 8-12 weeks until delivery.

I was then given a build date during week 6, making delivery between weeks 8 & 10. Since then I sold my only car. Afterwards, I was given another call by the purchasing manager at the dealership saying "we almost have your order allocated." Turns out the salesman was completely wrong and gave me a false build date, my vehicle had not even made it through allocations at the time.

I now have a corrected build date of over a month past the original one, making delivery between weeks 13 & 14.

How much should I expect to have taken off the price for this error? What else can I work in to make this a sweeter deal because of their f*$& up? Renting a comparable vehicle for an extra month is roughly $1900 for me. I am less than impressed with this fiasco and am fighting back hard to drop the name of their dealership.

    That.

And as far as money you're owed? Whatever they'll give you, I guess.. which is probably nothing. It's too bad you're paying another month for a rental car, but that's your choice. They're not liable to pay your bills.

So your salesman lied, is this a shocker? Unfortunately, the dealership nor the salesman told you to sell your only car, that decision is not their fault. Yes, it would have been nice if the dates would have been correct, but it is a car salesman and you just learned, Never trust a car salesman. Sorry for the fiasco, but you probably won´t get anything out of it except for high blood pressure.

Was there any guarantee on the original delivery date timeframe?

I don't think you'll get anything unless it was in writing on a contract.

If you need a truck right now it might be best to get your deposit back and buy one off the lot at another dealership...

Well, I hope you get something, but unless you have already paid for it, they don't have a binding agreement.

Originally, I had taken a Taco out for a test drive, came back to the dealership, drew up the papers, talked with the finance manager, sat down; agreed with all the numbers, getting ready to sign and I noticed a Taco that looked EXACTLY like the one I was buying drove past the window in the salesman's office .... rounded the flower garden in the front of the dealership and headed down the highway. Someone else had finished the paperwork first and it was GONE.

    I WAS PISSED.

Anyways, they took care of me. They brought in another one from another dealership 3 days later, and the rest is history as I have my Taco.

I hope they treat you right!

The taco you ordered will probably sell for MSRP if you let it pass.

Find another dealer. I got an A/t 'cause I was told there just were not any M/t within 500 miles. A month later, just for laughs, I researched the stock of dealers on-line within 50 miles and there were 5 m/t in Chicagoland area, one a twin of mine on left in avatar and way cheaper'cause it was a stick. Turns out there were a lot more within 250 miles. Dealer = "liar, liar, pants on fire...."

    Moral of story.

Never sell you only vehicle before taking delivery of next vehicle based on a promise of a car salesman.

I don't think you will get anything from the dealer.

Two mistakes, one on the dealership, one on your part the way I see it, learn from it and move on. One thing I have learned, if it involves money, we gonna sign papers. I once (23 years ago)had a verbal contract on a house with a man who did a radio talk show on personal finances(figured he would be approved of all people). Turns out 3 months later I found out he had bad credit.

Well.. I'd say it's more like counting your eggs before they hatch.

Leaving yourself to pay and drive a rental car until your new car (ordered, even..) is available is pretty damn foolish.

Expecting someone else to pay the bill for your bad decision is even more so.

Not everyone has the money saved up for the down payment. Selling your current vehicle privately can yield more money over trade-in. But timing is hard which is why many people trade and eat the difference. Some can be made up on tax savings, but not all. When you have two or more vehicles, it is obviously much easier to manage but it is difficult when you are young without a lot of money or credit.

I feel sorry for the OP, but the dealer isn't likely to help. They can't sell what they don't have in stock and they don't control Toyota allocations and shipping.

I would get your deposit back if you placed one, and take your business elsewhere.
