Absolutely. First of all, if I have a reservation and they took it for 7, even 7:30 would be unusual in these parts and I would expect some sucking up by the restaurant. By 9 they would be comping the meal. I know in some parts of the country you put up with snotty restaurants that think they can do what they want, but not in this area. That kind of crap doesn't fly in Texas.

For restaurants I work on a three strikes rule. Each time I go if there is a significant problem, they get a strike. After three, they lose my business forever. Rarely does a restaurant screw up so badly they are banished on the first or second strike but it happens.

This dealer would need to make amends in the form of a deeper discount or they would lose my business. Fucking up an order and poor communications are two strikes. Not handling it properly after that would be three in my book.

Bad example. 7:30 is understandable...but that late would be all sorts or jacked up.

My point is, I would have just left and taken my business elsewhere.

I still don't see why the dealer is responsible for the OP for not having a car to drive.

    Well...alrighty then.

I agree with others that have said the dealer owes you nothing unless you had a date in a signed contract. Even still no one made you sell your car before your vehicle arrived, not sure if you needed the money from that to make the purchase but it was a poor decision on your part.

Even if he needed the money he could have worked something out with the buyer such as let me continue to drive it as little as necessary until my truck gets here, then we will complete the sale. The buyer could have said no, sure no problem, or if we do that then we take x amount of dollars off, or something along those lines. Also the buyer could have backed out at the last minute too, so basically the point is Nothing is Gauranteed in life, so make your decisions wisely. Yes the OP made a poor choice, and he is going even further with poor choices trying to hold the dealer accountable.
A good quote that applies to many life situations works here,
"A screw up on your part does not make an emergency on mine"

Paul, I'm not going to join the chorus that the dealer owes you nothing but instead remind you that you do still have a bargaining chip - you haven't actually bought that truck. It's still a negotiation and they don't want you to walk. You know you don't want to give up your build, but here's one way to play it:

"I sold my ride and now I'm basically footing a $1900/mo bill on a rental. I can't afford it with the new delivery estimate getting pushed out so I looked at a Frontier/Colorado/F150 instead." Play it calm and it may well prime them to cover part or all the rental, reduce the purchase price, or otherwise earn your goodwill.

Also, do you need a "comparable vehicle" for a specific purpose or can you get by with an econobox until the truck is delivered?

    LESSON #1:

NEVER expect a precise delivery date! NEVER.
Build date can be pushed, there can be trouble on transport, etc etc. The dealer can't even know for sure himself.

It's NOT ok do even give a date to start with. A range.... maybe, ok.

    LESSON #2:

You should have waited to sell your car.

Unfortunate, but nothing can really be done here.

Just figured out the multi-quote here...

    Further background:
I never signed a contract for an exact date, but received the incorrect dates through email correspondence so its at least in text somewhere.
Sold my car in advance because I walk to work most days and wanted to make sure I had money for a down payment. I have some summer plans that are about to get rather derailed due to this date mix up. Was prepared for some time without a vehicle, just not the amount this has grown into.

    Heres what I ordered:
M/T Off Road, Magnetic Gray Metallic, with premium and technology package
If yall can find one elsewhere that would be amazing, but I had done a fair amount of searching and figured the best way was just to order and wait.

I need a comparable vehicle for kayaking, which is what I like to do in my free time. Reason why I wanted a truck to begin with. If a rental had a sturdy roof rack system, that would do just fine.

Not sure I understand your logic here. I was given a delivery date, and then it was changed, being pushed back a month. "I" screwed the pooch? The point of this was more for me to understand what bargaining / leverage I have as a result. Not be told that I should or shouldn't have done something. Hindsight is always 20/20...

by selling your vehicle before actually having a hard VIN and solid delivery date. You always have to play the "what if" game. What if the truck is delayed and I already sold my vehicle? What are my alternatives/ You cant blame the dealer...expecially Toyota! They dont have the same playbook for ordering vehicles as other car manufacturers. They try to make a change on an existing build. I ordered a Jeep wrangler for the wife. I checked the build website and it gave me all the info as to where it was in the build cycle. Once the VIN was applied, the vehicle was rolling off the assembly line within 48 hrs. Then it showed when it was loaded onto the rail and given 10 day ETA.
Toyota give you a place holder VIN. Once you have a good VIN, the vehicle is shipping. Typically its 48 to 96 hrs after it shipped. Until you have a good VIN you dont have a clue where its at in the cycle.

OP, how set are you on the P&T package? I found 3 MGM OR with manual, but none of them have the premium package.:(

I would hit up dean at Toyota west. He seems to be able to find trucks that others can't. I recommended it to someone else looking for a unicorn and they had the within a month

Have you sat in one with the premium package? If you're tall (as your name implies) you might want to double check if you haven't. I'm 6'3" and with the moonroof that comes in the premium my head's right against the headliner unless I lean back way more than I want to.
