It's up to the dealer whether they'll sell pro parts. My old local dealership sells every single pro part to anyone, I just wanted it included with the specific dealership I was looking at buying from (and didnt because of the lie)

    https://tacomatownonline.com/collec...oducts/16-trd-pro-grill?variant=4593355227166

You can buy the fox shocks, pro badge, everything from them. And they dont care about VIN numbers.

I think he was saying they won't install pro parts on an OR OR Sport, not that they wouldn't sell the parts.

Even the dealership from the OP here had a wall of parts on display for sale including the TRD grill, FOX shocks and 4 runner SEMA rims with pricing displayed.

I would consider putting some money down and get everything in writing. When the Pro without a mooroof does not come in, pull the plug.

If you were at a Metro Detroit dealer I would understand and expect that. They don't sell all that many around here for some reason :tumbleweed:

But San Antonio? Where they build them?

You're an educated buyer, you've been here researching, learning and you're passionate about your new truck.

A salesman may have been there 20 years, or 2 weeks. They have to keep track of many different models, also, most are not passionate about them in the least, they just want the paycheck from them. Add to it, Toyota changes minor things each year, keeping up with those changes on all models would be exhausting.

I remember when the crf150r came out. Was looking at it, no interest in buying, but sales guy came over and starting spouting stuff off about it. I stopped him when he said it had an all aluminum frame. I told him that's steal. He says, no, that is an all aluminum frame. I point out the 250 and 450s sitting nearby with Aluminum frames, completely different material, and look. He's adamant that it's aluminum, so we go talk to the guy at the parts counter, who looks at the sales guy like he's a moron and says it's a steal frame, other than the aluminum swingarm. Sales guy turns to me, says he musta got the specs confused since it had the aluminum swingarm. How can you not tell the difference visually?!?

When I bought my 16, I built it online, and to my surprise they couldn't match what I asked because of combinations and availability from the distributors, also I learned that certain packages changes a lot per region or even dealership.

I used to sell cars before returning to Marlin Crawler. I'm big on tech and details in general regardless of what I'm talking about. I keep seeing people talk about the salesman being the issue but I would bet dollars to dimes that he got every answer he gave you from him SM or GM. Dealerships suck the sales staff is treated like they know nothing and can only answer your questions with pre set answers set by corporate. Every year the models change not much but they do. Also when ever I tried to get technical info on the cars I sold I would be hit with "you don't need to know that" basically the selling points for a car/truck now is the size of the back up camera display, cup holders, and how sweet the factory radio sounds! 80% of people are ok with this and its a numbers game so they don't care about us other 20% of buyers.

This is nothing new nor is it surprising. Wait until you visit these jerks for maintenance. It is amazing that so many sales people don't even know their product. I had a sales person that did not even know the difference between a Tacoma and Tundra

This. You know everything about it because you've been researching it for weeks. The salesman doesn't go home and study this crap for fun.

But also, surprisingly, lots of people don't buy the vehicle they went shopping for. So it's in the salesman's best interest to keep you involved and looking at things.

Your mistake was expecting the dealership to know anything in the first place. That aren't in the business of educating and helping customers. They're in the business of scamming vulnerable people.

the best experience i had buying a car was when i bought a mini cooper in 2011. the advisor i worked with owned 2 of them and knew everything about the car. it helped that the entire model line up shared the same engine, transmission, and that any available option could be added a-la-carte on a custom build.

it never felt like i was buying a car, more like they were building the car i wanted. i even changed my mind on paint color after the build had started, and they just submitted a new build configuration. it was 100% painless and frustration free. i wish more dealers gave this option to custom build.
