Took mine in for the coating, the dealer said the frame was factory coated but that it did not have the plugs. Will bring it back once the plugs come in. My truck is a 2017 AC, manual, built in TX. I wonder if there is a difference in frame protection between TX and Mexican built trucks?

The other consideration is living with the smell of whatever you put in your body panel acceptable to you or not. I will never spray fluid film in my door panels ever again lol.

Fluid film changed the formulation to a lower (0)? smell ...wool wax. woolwaxusa.com

".............Woolwax® lasts much longer, has almost no smell, ........."

Probably doesn’t matter when ambient temp outside hits 100+. I couldn’t smell the fluid film in winter but when summer heat hit, jeebus

Wrong information. Fluid film and Woolwax are 2 different brands. Kellsport who was a big distributor of fluid film decided to have their own lanolin based product made. They made it thicker and almost no smell.

Do you sleep under there or what? Why care what it looks like as long as it helps. I went through the frame replacement crap with my 06. They had my truck for 9 weeks. I'll take the dripping.

    Mostly dust and dirt.
Apparently they are put there to encourage rust.

Exactly. I have never had a smell problem with new motor oil. Tried gear oil once. Big stinky mistake ! Had to redo with MO.....it worked to get the smell out. You’re right. Gotta live with the smell.

Do any of these applications or home brews take the factory coating off?

I live in upstate NY and when I bought my truck new I asked for the sound deadening rubberized underspray and rust prevention coating. It doesn’t look anything like that, but then again Toyota doesn’t even do it, they farm it out to a local vendor. Honesty though, I think that will go a long way to preventing rust and I wouldn’t even think twice about it. It may not look the prettiest, but if it prevents rust then I’ll take it! Nothing worse than spending $40k on a truck to have it rust out from under you!

Normally used products like oil based lubricants don’t . My dealer encouraged me to continue applying my products, with no affect on any warranty .

It all depends upon the product used and the workmanship.

Well, if it staves off the rust......I’m just not convinced it will do much permanently. Nothing does.

Sad part is I can guarantee they would NEVER sell a new vehicle looking like that. Reviews would slam them so hard on quality it would be pathetic. Sad that we own it now so you take what we get.
