Does the dealer clean the frame before they apply the coating? And how? Pressure wash?

Without knowing what it is, I’d assume like rust converter it changes color and maybe flows out to a smoother appearance. Otherwise, it does look like shit. I’m having mine done this summer. They said I could continues spraying it with oil and using wheel bearing grease.

I just got off the phone with my dealer and he said that mine was sprayed at the factory and all they do is put on some plugs.

My letter said that they would apply CRC but my dealer said no. You think I'm being bull s''itted?

Some 17s got coated from the factory but didn’t get all the fancy plugs the 18s did. Easy way to tell if yours is for sure coated is look inside the frame and see if you notice the thin wax (factory applied wax is much thinner than the stuff dealers are using)

That will get the truck past the warrenty Period. It’s an ongoing process if you want a rust free truck for ten plus years,

My truck was only a couple months old before i cosomolined it. Frame was pretty spotless already. All i did was take the garden hose to it, then let it dry. Hours later i did some rust proofing.

I bought my Tacoma in April and noticed some semi soft pliable crap coming out of the hole in the middle of the frame rails. The road de-icers they use around here are super-corrosive. I'm going to try Fluid Film and hope for the best!

So a 2020 is still prone to the issues of severe frame rusting or did the company do some rethinking???

On the newer frames the plugs that have been mentioned, are they on the frame at the rear of the front wheel well?

The dusty film appears to be remnants of the wax. It’ll only be on the inside of the boxes section of the frame.

I think that I will go with the Cosmoline, been reading some reviews and watching some videos on all the different brands.

@zoo truck how many cans did you need?

There is zero chance I'd buy a unibody truck.

I've got my letter in the mail. I will bring it in the next oil change.

My truck got a gallon of FF sprayed everywhere the first year I had it as I've got the 24" want, so I probably got as far as the front shock mounts into the box section with it from under the doors and then tried to hit everywhere else I could. I put another half gallon or so on it every October. Typically when the temperature gets above 90 degrees my truck weeps. My parking spot at work has an outline of my frame.

I wonder how they'll react when they see all my work. I figure if nothing else I will just unbolt the plugs, re-apply FF to the boxed section and keep going. All I know is I've gone through (4) MA winters and my frame still has all it's original black paint on it. I go VERY heavy and it's absolutely miserable working under my truck, but outside of the leading edge of the transmission crossmember where the paint is abraided away, there are no rust spots on my frame.

I just got home from the dealership and they applied some plugs but all I can see is the plastic "plates" along the side frame rail opening.

Where are the other locations at?
I can't see any other plugs or plates anywhere.

    Thanks

I used several bomb spray cans of the regular rp-342 yellowish/brown stuff. Had a good deal on eBay at the time for it. Found out later they now make comosline rp-342 in black. Seems to go on very similar to fluid film, but much longer lasting. It can be removed with acetone or mineral sprits.
