Dealership "said" they rotated my tires...

So I took the truck in for its 15K free service (basic check up, oil change, rotate tires...) Of course I marked my oil filter and one of my wheels.

When I came back to pick her up, the service sheet said that everything was normal, they changed the oil, rotated the tires ect.... So I walk out to the rig, pop the hood and no problem, they changed the filter. Then I look at my front tire and the mark was still there! SO, they didn't rotate them.

Long story short, I head back to the service department, tell them whats up and the receptionist got on the phone and had a long conversation with the service department...They say that they were going to rotate them but there was more tread on the rear tires so they left them because that's what Toyota recommended?

Anyone else heard this story? Sounds like they were just trying to cover their butts to me.

I know that most tire shop try to keep the tires with more tread on back because of handling in wet conditions.

That's a bunch of bull (not u pdctaco, u beat my post!). The front tires wear faster because they have steering scrub, the toe-in, and the majority of the weight going against them.

I'm going to wait to rotate until after winter because better tread on the front means easy spinouts, but still I will rotate them.

Id say they were just covering their butts.

And if that were true, why would they lie the first time? Why not just tell you about the tread wear?

Costco got sued a while back because some idiot over steered, and the new policy pretty much for all shops is to put their hands up and put the better tires on the rear.

-I dont agree with it at all, but it seems to be standard now.

I would rather over steer than under steer any day of the week.

Even so they should have told you they didnt rotate due to that reason. Not leave it up to you to discover it. They should know people already think they try shady shit.

I'd be curious to know what the work order reciept said concerning the tire rotation?

Yeah, I was pretty pissed....The receptionist said she would have a talk with the service department and make sure they noted those types of thing in the future but you know how that goes, makes you wonder what other things they are cutting corners on that most people just blindly accept as being done correctly.

When the free stuff dries out I'm going back to a place where I can watch the guys work on the truck.

I always thought you should put the better tires on the front. I would rather have a shitty tire in the back in case it were to fail. That way your steering doesn't go as well. Traction in the rear makes sense, but I would rather have control.

I'm sure it was a quick cover story. Good on you for marking it, I say forward it to big Toyota to make sure the dealer doesn't get paid for the work.

    I put gas in it...
Isn't the whole point of rotating the tires, "even wear" ? - If your front tires are already worn down, how bad with they be when you go in for you next service lol?

    Yeah, that don't add up.

I bet they didn't do half that list.

    Toyotacare is a ripoff.

My truck has ToyotaGuard Elite and I will never use it. Waste of $699.00.

Basicially, I gave Toyota $699.00, and they dole it out to the dealer to keep their service business in business. I despise this crap being forced on consumers.

However, I did get a few 3oz bottles of detailer and a microfiber rag in a little plastic container thingy...oh, and etched glass...lets not forget that invaluable piece of technology.

I'd rather had given the 700 bux to charity...bought myself a new power tool...or, put it all on black over in Biloxi.

Actually...I'd get more satisfaction and amusement watching 7 crisp benjamins going through the paper shredder, then dealing with these douchebag dealership service departments. serious.

I hope that the dealership realizes that charging someone for a service that wasn't done is considered fraud. It's also considered fraud if they are telling TOA that it was done when it wasn't is considered fraud as well. If I were you OP I'd find another dealership to deal with. Sometimes the consumers have to become mechanics and check the professional mechanics did their stuff right. We shouldn't have to, but it could save you. I don't think that they should have charged you for the work if it wasn't performed.

You're right, something doesn't seem right.
