So I bought this truck 2 years ago and have gone over it in detail, thought I knew everything about it, but pulling apart the gauges to replace the orange LEDs revealed some custom tune up work done by somebody...

That’s one way to fix warning lights ‍o_O

Now I have tire pressure sensors to buy.. And I thought the system was functional. Airbag light was hidden as well. Thankfully that system is working.

Anybody else run into sleezy stuff like this after buying your pre owned Tacoma?

Definitely not the dealer in my opinion. They have way to much to lose if the worst happened considering two safety items were covered up.

    Was it Toyota Certified?

That sucks but should be a fairly easy fix. The "Maint" is oil change alert and easy to reset.

That’s a lot of effort to go through to fix a few minor problems.

A few mods here and there and counting....
Looks like the previous owner didn't want to deal with it and covered it up on the trade in.

Why go to the trouble of taking the gauge cluster off to black out the maintenance light lol? It's easy to reset and it's not like it means anything bad really. I can understand someone being a dick and blacking out the check engine light to try and hide some issues with the truck, but the maintenance light is just plain silly

Lol I did that to my TPMS light when the control module shit the bed. But the maintenance light? That's literally 5 seconds to reset, without a single tool!

It wasn’t Toyota certified, it was through a private owned dealership here in Charleston S.C.

Also I looked up the reset for the maintenance light today. ha glad that’s an easy fix.

I figured that would be a risky thing for a dealer to pull off. IMO the previous owner wanted to get more trade in value.

There have been several fixes I’ve done to make up for the PO. Missing clips and intior trim covers. Also a light bar wired directly to the battery without fuse or relay. Wires routed wrong in the engine bay. It’s time to go over the truck again to be sure :annoyed:

Yup didn’t even cross my mind when I bought the truck a few years back, checked it up and down scanned it for codes. And test drive it a while. Ran well & drove well. Never even came to my mind to count the warning lights on startup. That’s on the list for next time lol

Thats pretty cheeky... prob the previous owner...

I know dealers get a bad rap, but of all the dealerships I have worked for nothing like this would have ever been allowed. Too risky.
