I bought a NEW 2015 Black DCSB Tacoma a few months ago. They installed the Toyota roof rack for me a week or so after the purchase date. Sunday I noticed the headliner was wet so called them Monday morning and told them I'd be in that day. On my way into the dealer the Traction Control, ABS, and Brake dash lights came on for several miles. They went out a few miles down the road and then my Speedometer started fluctuating from my speed of 45 to upwards of 100 mph. I made sure to take videos and pictures of this happening as proof for the dealer, just in case I showed up and it suddenly wanted to act as it should. My truck now has 2200 miles on it.

I am currently waiting to hear back from the dealership. They said there might be a white one available a couple states out. I am not sure if they are thinking this is going to be a straight up trade or whether they are thinking I'm going to drop some coin to get out of mine and into another New 2015. I drove the 2016 while I was in there and tried to like it, but I couldn't. I never could get the front end to grow on me. I thought I would like the new interior but didn't. I like the way the 2015 provides more separation for the passengers with the old center console. The way they have the climate controls laid out just looks tacky and thrown together. Mainly I like how the 4.0L has proven itself to be reliable over the years. I don't have any kind of track record on the new motor and tranny so that also pushed me away. The way I see it the dealership screwed up on the install of the roof rack so therefore they are at fault. So I shouldn't be the one to have to pay to get a different truck.

Doesn't look like you have much choice... 2015's are few and far between. Even if you get a 2015, it's already obsolete/outdated... if they want you to get into a 2016 on their dime, do it. 2015's 4.0's have issues, just search the forum. Be open minded not narrow minded, if they are indeed going out of their way for you

When I was looking at the 2016 Tacoma his words were, "I will try to get you as much money as I can out of yours and into a new truck for as cheap as I can." But I would expect to get out of mine what I paid for it since it was their screw up.

Seems roof racks and sunroofs are not a wise decision.

Why put holes in your roof, just to leak and cause havoc later?

The holes for the roof rack are already there they just have a weather proof strip covering them. At the time I wasn't aware that the holes went all the way through into the cab. The new one will not be getting the roof rack!!! But I agree with you. That is why I have always avoided sunroofs seems like they always eventually leak.

I'm missing something in the conversation I guess.

Leaks, while they should not have happened, can be fixed. And fixed properly and well, never to leak again.

Are you implying a tie in to the electronics issue, as in the leak got something wet? Or is the electronics issue separate?

If leak related, should be fixed with the leak repair. If not, that's what warranties are for.

Don't understand the 'new truck' or 'truck swap' talk? Is that something you asked for, before even knowing the results of the work? Or did a salesman just try to take advantage of your vulnerable moment?

PS, NEVER complain to a salesperson about something with your vehicle. Most can barely operate it. They may smile and nod, but they are looking for the next sale, not your best interest. Let the service people take care of the service issues.

My grandparents are friends with the owners of the dealership. That's why I have kept my cool thus far. I don't have to deal with a salesman I go straight to the sales manager. The both sides of the headliner was soaked which leads me to believe that some water most likely made its way down the A pillars and possibly onto the gauge cluster and whatever computers may lie behind either side of the dash. I used to work as a mechanic at a Cadillac dealer and there were always those few cars that were always in the shop for electrical issues. You start getting water on electronics and you began drastically cutting the life of those components. I also do not trust all mechanics. I saw a few mechanics doing some shady shit just to get the car out the door. Warranty work doesn't pay anywhere close to what it would normally pay on the customers dime. If the cluster started acting up that tells me that water got into the electronics and began shorting out connections.

This is good advice. When I bought my 2014 I asked the sales guy something about the interval for changing the transmission gear lube (5 speed manual) and he said the new transmissions are "capped" and never require changing at all! From that point on I kept my technical questions to a minimum.

Um... sales manager **IS** a salesman. He just also happens to tell the other salesmen what to do.

Um.... Correct and everyone is an employee. But I don't deal with a "salesman/middleman" I get to speak directly to the man who gets to make the decisions.

sales manager does NOT make decisions. They sell cars and... **manage** the salespeople.

The decision maker is the owner.
    ONLY the owner.

The fleet manager makes the decisions no? Anyone can say I want to deal with the fleet manager directly. I've done that twice and didn't deal with the song and dance like i would normally with a salesman.

The owner isn't going to sit around and make decisions on every sale; its delegated to the managers while they sit in their mansion drinking wine. My brother worked at a fairly large Toyota dealer... My wife also works at a large car dealership, the owner is a billionaire he's not going to be bother by that crap. Hes on his dam island somewhere in mexico.

Is that why when he gave me the truck at their cost he didn't need to discuss it with anyone else. When it comes down to whether or not he can trade me out of my truck straight then yes he will I'm sure to speak with the owner. But to state he doesn't have the power to make any decisions is *************wrong***********. I made this post for feedback from others to hear what they would do. Not get into a useless pissing match. So why don't you just move on and bug the shit out of someone else.
