Dealership sheered a lug, should I have asked for a loaner until replacement?

The dealership sheered a lug on one of my rims today and has me driving it until thursday when my next day off allows me to get in for the repair (no part on hand to do today).
Should I have demanded a loaner car, or is driving on 5 out of 6 lugs really not a big deal?

Sheared a stud I'm assuming? Happened to me once, didn't notice for almost a week. Dealer royally f'd up rotating my tires and the car was never the same (vibration when over 45mph).

Yeah if I had noticed it I would have wanted them to either fix it immediately or provide me a loaner.

Sadly it isn't terribly uncommon. Tires Plus sheared a stud off of my last car, but they fixed it the same day with an OEM stud. Still wasn't thrilled (there must be some metal fatigue pressing out/in studs), but at least they fixed it right away.

Shearing a lug is common and with 6 on the truck its still fully drivable until you get it repaired. Recommend using anti-sieze compound to prevent lugs from freezing as the truck gets older otherwise you might shear some yourself if you do your own tire rotations later.

    No need for a loaner.

They should have offered you a loaner car if they had any pride or cared.

Will you be fine on 5 studs? Yup (assuming your not running 37s or something)

They would have given me a new Tacoma to drive because it had all the lug nuts and studs on it when it went in to be serviced

You mean you didn't demand a new truck at least 1 trim level above for the inconvenience?

Good for you. Lots of vehicles drive around on 4 lugs of about the same size. You should be fine till they fix it. I'd just not take the truck off any sweet jumps until I got it fixed though.

Even if you got them to comp you a loaner, it'd be a cute little Yaris with butt sweat rings on the seat. I'd drive the truck.

If they did that Yaris would be going off sweet jumps til the truck was repaired.

This happens because it takes too long to use a torque wrench. Time is money at the dealership.

Careful on lubing the studs. Here is what the owners manual says (p.476):

"Never use oil or grease on the wheel bolts or wheel nuts.
Oil and grease may cause the wheel nuts to be excessively tightened, leading to bolt or disc wheel damage.
In addition, the oil or grease can cause the wheel nuts to loosen and the wheel may fall off, causing an
accident and resulting in death or serious injury. Remove any oil or grease from the wheel bolts or wheel nuts."

In the old days it didn't seem to hurt the hardware to lube lug nuts/studs to prevent seizure, but not anymore (with Toyotas anyway).
Baseline torque is calculated for a non-lubricated (dry) fastener, unless otherwise stated in the manufacturer's literature.
Various lubricants affect the effective torque applied to the fastener. For example, it is recommended to reduce stated dry torque 15%-25% when using oil; 50% when using Teflon or Moly dry film, etc.
If no lubrication is called out in the torque specification, it is usually understood to be dry.

Found this out the hard way on my 2004 Prerunner by shearing one.

Complaining to the staff just encourages them to spit in your food. Drive the truck and see if you get a good explanation for the damage. If you trust the answer then you haven't burned a bridge. If you don't like the answer then don't go back.

The stud was originally left in because it was bound in place, but has come out since. I felt a pretty good clunk at one point, so they will have to check everything down there to make sure nothing was damaged when it came out. All I can think of with a grinding clunk sound is it may have gotten bound or scraped the breaks once it released. Either way, they're going to make it like new. Or, replace any parts that can't be made like new.

Anti-seize is not a 'lubricant' in the sense you're speaking of here.
