Dealership sheered a lug, should I have asked for a loaner until replacement?

And if you find that your home was structurally unsound because of negligence on the builder/contractors part I'm sure you would have just accepted the risk of that possibility and pony up your own money to fix it... rather than hold the negligent party accountable?
    It's the same idea.

They damaged my vehicle, they will fix it.

New homes come with warranties from the builder for a limited time, if the damages/negligence were not spotted during this time then yes the repairs are paid by the home owner...This happens ALL the time. This happens ALL the time with contractors as well. Almost everytime the consumer loses and has to pony up and pay for a better contractor to fix it..

I get it man, you are unhappy, I would be too, but you're acting like you are entitled to something.

And this truck falls well into its warranty (at 6 months old), so if the dealership doesn't feel the need to cover their damages, I'm sure corporate will find me a solution. I doubt they refuse to fix it though, so this theological discussion is probably a moot point.

If it were me, I would take a bunch of pictures of the bolt jammed where it is and any damages its caused. Then I would call the dealership and tell them they need to send a tow to come grab it if you actually think its too dangerous to drive. Better yet, send them an email with the pictures attached. Let them own the decision whether or not to have you drive it in or send a tow.

The bottom line: They need to make you whole. Which means, they need to fix the lug and any damage associated with the incident/their negligence. They let you drive home (told you to) and drive around on it for a few days. Any damage that was caused is their problem. Any businessman, lawyer, reasonable person would see it that way.

As far as the loaner goes...most dealerships I've been to are reasonable with their loaners. If you aren't a dick or entitled prick to them, they'll usually do what they can to help you out. Make them want to help you. Be polite, friendly, businesslike, and firm. Don't cuss, raise your voice, threaten, or act like a jerk. The golden rule goes a long way here.

Does warranty say you get a loaner? This discussion was about a loaner not the repairs.

I wish you the best of luck with it though, truly.

Pipe front bumper. My trucks have work to do.
Can't believe we have 5 pages on this. Have your dealership tow it to their dealership and repair everything on that corner. Here's something similar that happened to me. Might help you decide how you want them to inspect all of the lugs that were serviced that same day for you.

I got a set of new tires from Discount Tire. A location I have done business with several times. However, this time I saw that the techs were not balancing my tires correctly. I commented to the technicians and complained to the head shop guy about their faulty technique for balancing to no avail. Finally, I just drove out and straight to my neighborhood tire guys. When my guys tried to remove the new tires from my truck, 5 of the lugs twisted off when they tried to remove the lugnuts by hand. When I complained to Discount Tire about this, they asked me if the lugs had been replaced. I told them "Yes" I had my guys replace the broken studs. Discount said "Fine, then there's no problem now."

So, here's the deal. Other commenters here have the right idea, but... Toyota has torque specifications for everything on the truck. There a number of these torque specs which are "softer" than normal American counterparts. For example, the torque setting for lugnuts on my 2nd gen Tacoma is 83 foot pounds. That's not very much and requires a torque wrench to get it right. The Discount people ran my lugnuts on with impact wrenches and did not use a torque wrench at all. As a result, they overstretched the factory Toyota lugbolts so that they could not even be removed by hand without twisting off and requiring replacements lugbolts. Once over-torqued, the lugbolts must be replaced. Otherwise they could fail at anytime because they are damaged.

Typical truck lugnuts on American trucks are 100-110 foot pounds. Unless the tire technician is knowledgeable and gives a crap, he is going to run your lugnuts on with an impact gun at much higher torque than Toyota allows causing damage and potential failure for your lugbolts. Most decent tire techs know this, but there are a lot who don't and some who work at name brand shops like Discount that just do not care.

Protect yourself. Take a strong position and hold it. You have proof that they have over torqued your lugbolts. Get them ALL replaced with a loaner and an apology from the Service Manager. Take it to the General Manager directly. If they want your business and don't want you to tell everyone you know how they screwed up, they will gladly fix it.

Disagree. When a mechanic damages your vehicle due to negligence, they are responsible for damages, including loss of use.

lol first time I've been called a troll on TW. Perhaps read another thread you find less annoying. Can't expect much from a thread that begins with "should I demand."

I don't edit anything but misspellings and grammatical errors...

Don't be naive, I never comment about peoples grammar or spelling. It's a forum not a dissertation. There are some people where english is not their first language.

Curious question: Are you a troll when you make a thread asking for opinions then get mad when said opinion is not supportive of the one you want.
