Happened to me about a week ago now thought this maybe worth a good laugh or some validation about the trucks we drive and the dealership bloodsuckers out there:

So I went into the Toyota dealership in Naperville, IL to test drive and take a look at upgrading to the 3rd gen Tacoma from my current 2013. I walked in (after I had made an appointment a day earlier) and was met by Rajesh who had no knowledge of the appointment made no attempt to look for it but oh well. I told him I was interested in the new Toyota Tacoma at which point he looked me up and down and said "of course we have some great used trucks on the lot we just got a 2012 in." I just laughed it off and told Rajesh that I already own a 2013 and I'm here for the newer and that I'd like to drive the TRD OR or the Sport if they had it in the layout I wanted. At which point he looked me up and down again and said "those are nice trucks... but pricey."

After the second slap in the face I just told him I saw the layout in the lot and Id like to take it for a test drive. So he goes out to the lot and gets the most expensive version and not at all what I asked for but I told myself to suck it up so I drove it and was just putting up with his broken English and complete ignorance about the truck. The truck was the Limited w/a lot of extras the were completely not necessary especially when I asked to drive the OR or Sport.

At this point you can imagine the annoyance building. He then wouldn't let me drive until we got onto the test track which is more of a joke than a track. Once I finally got in the drivers seat he kept adjusting things while I was driving, he even put it in 4-wheel drive because he didn't know what that dial did! I was driving through a tight turn at the time and he got freaked out when the truck was acting up trying to engage 4 wheel drive in the middle of an 80% turn. Dumbass

Chaperoned test drive ends and we get back to the dealership. I ask him if I can take the truck for an official test drive and pick up the woman to see what she thinks and so that he could give me an accurate appraisal for my truck. So he sets that up and I drive off for a bit. The woman liked the truck but knew it wasn't the model we'd be getting but regardless I wanted her to drive it because it would be a family vehicle.

Anyway I drop her off at home and take the truck back to the dealership. I bring it back and get to talking and Rajesh keeps trying to push this truck on me until I told him for the tenth time - I am looking for the TRD OR or Sport DC SB. (Spelled out for him) So I asked him what the appraisal for my truck was? He pulls up to a computer punches some basic info in and comes up with a trade in value of $10k. Turns out they didn't do an appraisal they just priced a basic 2wd 4cyl. with my year, cab layout, and mileage. I which point I knew he had gotten something way wrong and I said thanks Ill let you know and walked out.

I looked at their website when I got home turns out the have seven used 2nd gen yotas, 4 of which have higher miles than mine not one being sold for less $25k. Plus a dealership affiliated with them had Taco 2012 2wd 4cyl. Access Cab, with 50k Miles for sale for $18.5k.
I was just at a loss.

Needless to say I'm shopping else where.

Sorry about your experience. It sounds like you need to go back and complain about that particular salesperson and see if they will do anything about it.

Sounds like that Dealership had no desire to sell a Truck.

Agree that it sounds like the SALESMAN is not interested in selling at truck. Don't blame an entire dealership because of one uneducated salesman. Go to dealership, ask to see sales manager, file concern/complaint with manager and get a new salesman.

When looking for my 3rd Gen at 8 dealerships I walked on 6 because of bullshit sales people. I already had financing set in stone through my bank (which seemed to really piss off many of the dealers from the start) and only one dealer offered to beat that rate by 1% and that's who I bought the truck from....

Went to the dealership last Friday and filed a complaint - got a shrug and a non-apology apology. So just done with them.

In a small business I can agree with you. When it comes to a large company, not every employee hired is the best. You hire someone based on the interview and application. Perhaps this salesman was just hired and it was his first day on his own. He made some stupid mistakes. Unless the dealership learns of the problem they can't correct it. Now as the OP has just posted, they seemed unconcerned with the complaint. At that point I can see walking away. I always try to give any large company a second chance. You never know, it might be a great company that happened to have a stupid mistake.

When will Amazon start selling cars? Car salesman were rendered obsolete by technology many years ago yet they still hang on.

Next dealership you go to ask for the Internet Manager, we are used to whoring everything out (if we can) and (Typically) are easier to deal with, although any given day that may not be the case everywhere. Also you can get all your numbers via email first then come in with a quote in hand so no BS (or less BS hopefully)

Also Tacoma's are often in twilight zone for pricing getting better now though, more supply out there than last year

My first thoughts while reading your post.

1.) Can't sell what you don't have (at least not always as easy).

Did the dealer actually have a unit you would have bought on the lot?

2.) Profit and or what the salesperson earns may be higher on a used vehicle.

3.) The salesperson was a butt.
