Maybe it really IS needed and they only care about minimizing their expense and getting you through warranty. SO MANY here believe it is the engineers who create the maintenance plan while it is actually a business decision to be able to advertise minimal maintenance costs while mitigating any risk to the end of the warranty period.

Simple solution, go to an apartment complex and do your car maintenance in their parking lot.

You can send in a sample of your oil to get tested for degredation (there's outfits online who do that) and see if your oil really needs to be changed at 5k or not.

I change my oil after every 5000 miles because if you read the manual, off-road, winter, towing and hauling put you in the “heavy use” category.

I change mine every 1000 miles (about twice a year.) Mostly short trips, a few off roads, and towing a boat... the mobile one 5W-30 is pretty much dark black every oil change.

If I don’t hit 5000 miles by August, I will change the oil on my 2022.

10k oil change is for normal driving and if you look up what normal driving is most everyone does not fit into that category. Unless you are only highway miles then you need to change every 5k miles. It is cheap insurance and will prolong your engine life.

5000 mile oil changes are a smart move.

Toyota recommends a 10K OCI for "normal" conditions. Read what "severe" use is defined as in the manual and I'm willing to bet a good portion of us fall under those conditions.

Toyota wants your car or truck to wear out so they can sell you a new one.

Yea, most of us fall into the severe category.

Car care nut has seen his fair share of engine failures and it’s almost always - in his words “folks 5000 miles between oil changes would have prevented this failure”.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
Change mine every 5k miles, at home, with Mobil 1 0w20 and oem filter. Costs me maybe 35-45 and faster than going to dealership.
