Glad to hear your story...wow 165K and going strong! Thats great news....
I don't believe there is anything wrong with a drain and refill on your transmission fluid. It only make sense that over time the oil does and will break down whether or not you tow a trailer and or have over heated the transmission fluid. I think most of us would agree the oil will break down - so why not refresh it.
My repair manual indicates automatic transmission fluid should be changed every 30K or 24months. Like they say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I have been wanting to for a very long time but there are many out there that say at this mileage if you change it that it's possible the transmission will fail shortly after. Slipping is the first sign after changing from what I read. I have changed all my fluids on time but when I took my truck into a certified Toyota servicing station at 85k he looked me dead in the eyes and said its a no servicing transmission. After Toyota re-nigged on that statement years later it was too late i was over 135k. Frantically looking for the best thing to do I read that it was best to not change it. I guess what I'm hoping to hear is someone on the forum that knows a guy that has changed their transmission fluids out after 145 to 165 and still going strong. Here's hoping. :fingerscrossed:
