So I just recieved a call from Toyota (866.887.7682) and they asked me questions regarding my truck like how many miles I had, is it paid off, is there anything wrong with it and if I would be interested in selling or trading in.

I asked why and they claimed that they don't have enough used "good" trucks to sell and they are contacting all 06 owners to see if they would be willing to sell or trade in. They asked me if I would be willing to go to my local dealership in Franklin TN to meet with a sales manager.

I asked if this had anything to do with the recent recall and they said no. I found this really strange and couldn't get any other info so I told them I'd agree to meet with them tomorrow.

They gave me a VIP number to present to the dealership and that I would have to ask for the "Sales Manager"

Has anyone else got any calls like this???? Does this mean my truck is f****d up and they just aren't saying anything? I have never recieved a phone call like this and think its completely odd and out of left field.

I got a letter this weekend saying the same exact thing. I take it as that they just want me to trade in and get a 2010.

they could have someone else who wants to buy the same one that you have except they cant find one. The commission off a used car is usually more than a new one. If you trade in yours they make more money than if they sell a new one. Then you in return buy an 2010 and they make more money. Could be good for both of you if the price is right and you are in a position to buy a new one

Exactly. Just want you to buy a brand new one. My grandmother gets these all the time from Dodge for her 02 Caravan.

    Too few to list.
That number is from a third party. They don't work for the manufacturers but they get contracted by many dealerships to solicit customers back in to trade in their vehicles or buy new ones.

I had this happen to me after Hurricane Katrina because everybody was buying up used cars off lots. They just want to increase good used car inventory and you buy a new truck. keeps money and inventory rollin through.

Thanks for all the responses! I'm glad to know others are receiving this as well. I never have in the past and since all this stuff about recalls and toyota trying to hide stuff from the public it just made me wonder.

My truck is paid off and I don't have any intention on buying a new one but I think I'll keep my appointment in case they offer me a deal I can't refuse. I guess everything is for sale if the price is right :D

yeah, it's mostly to get you to buy a new truck. The more trucks that other people see out there, the more enticed others are to buy one, hence maybe that's why most of us here bought one. But actually there is a huge market right now for used cars. Mostly b/c people can't afford new cars, but good running vehicles like your taco, sell for high dollar. comparetively speaking.

It's a gimmick. They'll pay you bottom dollar for you truck, and budge little on their new truck. I got a letter like that 6 months ago. I went to the dealer where I bought my truck from which the letter claims it's from. They told me they can get my Tacoma from the many auto auctions in the area for $15K, and only offered me $17K for mine, but wanted $29,500 for theirs. The sticker was $31,200. I told them don't bother me anymore.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
New car sales are down due to high unemployement.
Used cars are flyign off the lot since they are cheaper to purchase.
lots of luxury cars on the lots much less cheaper dependable cars. So 5 year old car is now a good buy.
With sales down so much in few years used car market will see prices move up. unless unemployement eases which is doubtful.

OMG! I just got another call from the dealership this time LOL!!!. He basically told me if I trade in my truck they would give me close to kelly blue book. I then told him KBB price on my truck is close to 20k and he said yes that's about right. I then asked him how much for a 2010 with my same specs and he said including incentives it would be under invoice. I told him according to KBB invoice it is around 26k and he confirmed.

So bottom line i was like so your telling me I can trade in my truck and get a brand new one for under 5k possibly and he sais yes.... I'm still skeptical so I have an appt tomorrow. If I can really get a brand new truck 4 years younger for like 5k I might take them up on the offer :D

oh. btw - i think they wanna sell you a new truck. They're probably calling to sell you a new truck. Sometimes when they call, or write letters, they want to take your truck and sell you a new truck

p.s. They wanna sell you a new truck
