Dolan in Reno Nv has been good for all experiences there. Elko Motor Company in Elko Nv is a good buying experiance.

OP, the treatment you receive is often reflective of how you present yourself when interacting with the people who work at these dealers. Be professional, be reasonable, but know your limits and be willing to confront them if they trying to take advantage.

I’m basically between Houston and Dallas, but have always just gotten our vehicles from the Conroe, Spring, Houston areas. Darrin in parts, at Fred Haas in Spring is a super star when it comes to sourcing everything from the mundane to the most ridiculous crap for guys. He knows all the best automotive shops in the area, too, since they do sales with those guys. When it comes to parts, he’s the guy.

But I’ve been thinking about picking up a 3rd Gen, and I keep hearing that as far as purchasing new trucks some of the DFW area dealerships are very competitive.

Did you have a good, quick, professional experience with Cowboy Toyota?

I think the Irving location is where the outlaying dealerships send vehicles for body work. At least that's what I was told when I brought our Avalon to Freeman for some minor body work. They quoted the price there at Freeman but the adjuster said it would be sent to Irving for the work. We went elsewhere as that process added several days to the repair time.

I've had good luck with Freeman. Only complaint is one time while waiting for service to be completed, I went to the restroom. Apparently they came out to get me as the work was complete while I was in there. I returned to the waiting area and sat for another 45 minutes before I finally went and asked if my truck was ready. "Oh why yes" was the reply, "but we couldn't find you". Good grief sometimes you gotta go. Plus they take your cell phone number for exactly that reason. Oh well, no real biggie, just a little nudge.

    For the most part.

I used the Costco automobile purchase service. It includes a discount from the purchase price, an additional credit of up to $200 on parts and service and, thereafter, a 15% discount on part, service and accessories. Costco referred me to Cowboy Toyota as a participating dealer. The truck I wanted was not in stock but was located in assembly. I was there on the day it arrived at the dealership and waited for the pre-delivery inspection and window tinting. My salesperson was not working that day so I basically gave the manager my cashier's check and he handed me the keys. There was no orientation regarding the various features, location of switches, programming the radio, etc. Not a problem. I had downloaded the Owner's Manual while waiting on the truck and was generally familiar with most of the features. There were, however, three issues. Pre-delivery failed to remove all of the adhesive from the coverings that protect the body panels during transit. Second, an accessory (hitch bar) was not included and, unbelievably, one lug nut was missing from EACH wheel. I pointed out the missing lug nuts immediately and the problem was corrected in 5 minutes. The hitch bar arrived and was picked up the next day. I removed the traces of adhesive with Goo Gone. I still shake my head at the lug nut situation. Each wheel had a wheel lock installed, but each was missing a lug nut. I don't understand how that happened.

I also applied the $200 Costco credit against against a brake job on my Tundra.

I have since learned that one of the salesmen is a personal friend of mine I have known since 1988. I would be happy to give you his name if you want to PM me. I ran into him when I went in to have my hood re-bonded. He's a good guy.

Michael's Toyota of Bellevue (Bellevue, WA) has always been great. My parents have gotten their vehicles serviced there for 10 years, and that's what made me buy my truck from them. Their service department is always top notch and will look into any complaints no matter how small, very professional.

I appreciate the comprehensive answer, genuinely. Why a lug but was missing from each wheel must have been a real mystery — an oversight by a tech somewhere along the way, no doubt. But you spotted it, and that’s the important thing. I try to do a check of any work preformed when I do have to take my truck somewhere, and I look for things just like that. Some of the leaf spring bracket bolts (main shackle bolts, I think they’re called?) had nuts that worked themselves loose and I inadvertently spotted it when draining/replacing my fluids a few weeks ago. My wrench slipped, hand hit the bracket, and it moved, ha. I thought, “That’s not supposed to happen”. Anyway, problem solved, but I should have spotted it sooner. I’m more disciplined when checking now.

I’m not quite ready to buy yet, since I really haven’t completely decided what I want, and I don’t want to send your friend and dealership through hoops till I know. But when the time comes I may inconvenience you for a contact, haha.

    Thanks everyone for the replies

Haha y’all so salty about that. Of course it would have to be worked on. Just not for the same things, and if it was worked on at the Ford dealers I had experience with, i wouldn’t be getting the run-around. Not because i used to work there, but because, well, they just seem to do it better. But i’ve only been to 4 Toyota dealers, theres plenty more out there that probably aren’t terrible — hence this list.

Plus honestly i probably just got a lemon-flavored Taco - had 12 problems within the first 1k, most of which still aren’t resolved, or took much more effort than they ought to have to get fixed.

Best you can hope for is a dealer who is fair and who handles disputes fairly with a let's find a middle ground attitude vs. deny everything, we can never get them to cover that attitude.

To that end.....Never, ever I mean no fckn way I ever spend a penny at any Penske location.

I like Toyota of Cedar Park in the Austin TX area.

They fix their fck ups, and seem like reasonable human beings.
