I got my current truck back in December from Longo and no additional dealer add ons.
Reserved it in July and was finally available in Dec with my name on the windshield.
Easy transaction but a bit of a wait.

Right on thanks for confirming. I can wait to save the insane markups. I like it when talking to other dealers salesperson they mention no dealers sale at msrp.

If everyone would stop paying a markup they wouldn't charge it. I paid msrp for my TRD Off Rd at Crestmont Toyota in NJ June 2022. Will never patronize any local dealers here on long island again. Most if not all were adding minimum $3k to the msrp some over $7k......criminals!

I bought my 2022 TRD OR DCLB from Laurel Toyota in Johnstown, PA for MSRP. No markups, no hardsells; my fourth vehicle from them. I drove 7 hours from Long Island, NY to Western PA to cut out the BS on NY dealerships. Couldn't recommend them enough!

2021 TRD pro from Walnut Creek Toyota at MSRP. CA is a pain to buy vehicles, but this dealership was great. They were able to get me a lunar rock towards the end of the 2021’s too.

I worked for a few dealers as a Finance Mgr and Sales Mgr for 25 years. Dealers pay invoice for their vehicles and then if THEY are the dealer that ordered the vehicle new from the factory(in other words, didn't get it from a dealer trade), they get what is called holdback. For example on a $50,000 F150 holdback would account for about $1000-$1500. After a dealer reports a vehicle sold to the manufacturer, the manufacturer credits them the amount of holdback in their dealer statement usually monthly. The reason I bring this up is MANY times I can remember working a deal with a customer that you knew was also shopping another dealer on a similar vehicle. Most of time to get the sale the dealer would sell for invoice if that's what it took, and some times dip in to holdback to make the deal. SO yes, a dealer can make a little if they sell at invoice. VERY little, though. SO now that the market is working in their favor, it's only fair that they sell their vehicles accordingly. My opinion. Ya gotta make hay when the sun shines. MSRP= Manufactures Suggested Retail Price. Emphasis on 'suggested'. I was happy to buy mine at MSRP. I wasn't gonna pay over. Some do and that's fine...depends on your local market and just how bad you want it. For those griping about paying at or above MSRP, did you also gripe when you bought a car in the past BELOW MSRP? I didn't think so....

Your post reminded me of a brilliant idea I had for the mortgage industry. People get really mad when their home value tanks and they are paying a $500k mortgage on a $250k house, but no one feels bad about a $500k mortgage on a $750k house. So my brilliant idea was a mortgage whose principal balance adjust every year based upon the value of your house (minus principal paid). So if you have paid $50k in principal and your house drops to $250k, congrats, your new principal balance is $200k. But if your house is now worth $750k, your principal balance is now $700k. Oddly I don't think anyone will ever take out one of those loans.

Jim....What's the normal difference between invoice and MSRP on say a $50,000 F150....?

I thought I would add a couple more NC dealers here from my recent buying experience:

    • Hendrick Toyota of Concord (and probably any Hendrick dealer in NC)
      • Simple buying experience, they were transparent from the start with pretty much MSRP pricing. You do get some of the fluff SET options like Toyoguard Platinum and dealer added junk like Nitrogen, Pinstripe, Doc fee. I didn't push to see if they would back off those as ultimately I went with another dealer after placing deposit here initially. TBD if that deposit is refundable (I find out today)
    • Bryan Easler Toyota
      • Great experience, secured the truck I wanted over the phone with a deposit and they were at MSRP from the start. Zero fluff on the deal except again a couple SET options tacked on the truck. I am planning to follow through with my purchase here once vehicle arrives early Oct.

Adam's Toyota in Lees's Summit, Missouri.
I did the 'build your Toyota' sheet online, printed it out and took that in and said, 'this is the exact truck I want'.
This was early 2021 and I paid just a little under the MSRP plus I got the Military discount.
5 months later it showed up - it was exactly as I wanted - and I've been very happy with it ever since.

McGrath Toyota in Iowa City, Army Green Offroad DCLB, sold for MSRP in April (though it took till June to get off the distributor's lot in Chicago to the dealership). Excellent experience.

RE: Hendrick. I think it varies across the state. I have seen some listed as no mark up but I know for a fact Hendrick Apex adds on about $2300 of junk. And ask for $1000 non refundable deposit.

For any New Englanders looking for a good deal....

Alderman's Toyota in Rutland, VT sold me a new TRD OR with a 6MT for MSRP. No BS, just a really painless buying process done all over email or phone. I ordered it in June and should have it a month or so.
