I noticed my skid plate was crooked, and I know I didn’t put it on this way.

I checked out the bolt on the passenger side, and the metal guide/spacer was missing. Looks like the dealship took off the entire skid plate to change the oil and forgot the put spacer back. What the heck? They basically warped the skid plate too.

Is there a bolt set for sale? Should I go back to the dealership? This was almost a month ago.

Take that pic to the service manger along with you receipt for work done and just ask for him to get you the part. Then go home and do it yourself.

This is why dealerships are strictly for warranty work, their trained idiots can't even put a skid plate on properly. It's not hard to change your oil with the Skid plate on, it has doors or openings where needed.

The 'technician' doing the oil change is NOT the master mechanic with years of service and accreditations the dealership is proudly showing you a picture of in the lobby. You probably don't want to see a picture of the actual guy doing the work. Just sayin......

Yep, these grease monkeys can't even do one simple task properly. They did the same thing when changing oil on my truck. Except in my case the idiot didn't support the plate, dropped it and chipped a paint off of the corner. I pushed for a new plate and they bought me one. If I were you I'd go back and have them fix it. They won't learn unless they pay for their mistakes.

Yep, there are usually only one or two guys at any given dealership that you would want to even touch your truck. The rest are usually hacks.

Same thing happened to mine. They backed out the retainer so it bound up when they put it back on. Took it off, adjusted it and put it back on

between this and over tightening the filter canister, I stopping going to the dealer for service.

What's worse is it's likely that the doofus that put it on wrong with a missing bolt, knew he was doing it wrong and didn't care one bit. It wouldn't be surprising if the service manager knew about it and said ship it out anyways, thinking, "who looks under their truck?"

Thanks for the responses! the dealership wanted to see me today, but I didn’t have time. I will see them first thing on Saturday morning.

I would just ask for the bolts but they over torqued the bolt and appeared have to warped my skid plate

You would think the oil guys would appreciate the ease of only having to remove the trap door instead of having to remove the entire skid plate. Surely, if they work at a dealership for even a couple of months they see many Tacomas with TRD skid plates. The dealership needs to make that right even if it means giving you a new skid plate.
