Dealerships suck, do your own maintenance or find a good shop you can trust. Learn from this now.

Probably a good reason they should have went with the aluminum filter housing.
Are the new trucks still plastic or updated to the aluminum one yet?

I got a 2020,based on past dealership service experiences,I’m planning on doing my own first oil change. I got “free” oil services from them but I’m passing on that for my own piece of mind.Is there any risk of them not wanting to fix stuff on warranty down the road since I did my own initial oil service? Thanks.

Just document it, put it in your Toyota owner account and keep receipts. You need a little moleskine book anyways, right?

Keep a log and all receipts. I have been doing all my repairs and upgrades for decades. If I can't do it, I have a honest shop who will help me. Good luck with your truck.

FYI, you should still be able to go into the parts department and get the oil and filter for free.

I have extra bolts from when I did my plate. Toyota sent me the whole kit, but I only needed one. Let me know which one you need and if I have it, I’ll just send it to you.

It's not just the noobs getting a noob job, it's the quality of training they get (or not) which creates problems for consumers and costs money to dealers.
OP, definitely make dealer pay for it. Like I said, until you hit them where it hurts, they won't learn/improve.

So today I took your advice, called the dealership and “customer service rep” checked and told me to come in to pick up my oil and filter. And of course when I showed up it wasn’t the case. “They made a mistake”. I hate sooo much dealing with checker suit douche nozzles! After lots of stuttering and passing me from “expert” to “expert” walked out of there pissed, never to spend a penny on their service again.

I’m not surprised that a dealership has a different policy than what I’ve experienced but I am surprised that they let a customer leave the dealership unhappy over a filter and 5 quarts of oil. They could have hooked you up once since you called ahead and was given bad info.

I was one of those “douchers” for a bit and we had a $100 rule. Meaning, you didn’t bother a manager if you could fix the issue for under $100. I’m sorry my suggestion did not produce fruit. Especially frustrating because their choice was not grounded in math, logic, or common sense.

PS. They probably couldn’t figure out a way to track it to your customer number and keep record of how many times you picked up your oil/filter. All they had to do was open an RO and explain the situation in the comment line.

Lol why did they take it off. It has a removable plate for oil changes, skid plate can stay on.

I have a feeling the kids changing the oil do not have an Allen Wrench or Allen Socket to take the door loose so they just go ahead and try to pull the entire plate.

Well considering most Pro owners are like the geese of the Tacoma world. Add Army Green or Voodoo blue and those are poison colors. I'd be hating too

I am a senior master Ford tech, been doing it for almost 20 years now. I have seen some of the dumbest people work in our quicklane, some kids do have a good work ethic, usually they are former military, but you never know who is going to work on your vehicle. i have customers who only have me do oil changes on their mustangs because i'm the "mustang guy" and they don't trust anybody else to do it.
